Patience… why would a big trade have already happened?

What?
No they read and do everything the most adamant and persistent posters state. They know the posters have better knowledge than them.

NFL needs to move trade deadline back 2 weeks so we can do this longer.

I know you’re joking, but just in case you’re not:

I haven’t been able to be around much but I still get on and read from time to time. I’ve enjoyed the trade rumors and Brad Holmes threads the most. They have been very interesting, haha. If the trade deadline was pushed back 2 more weeks I feel like I would definitely lose my mind. I know most of the people in here would probably end their lives.

This move will be worth it just in euphoria and jersey sales. See ya Tuesday Maxx. Love you :kissing_heart:

Us on draft day, snuggling with our honey I shrunk the kids Lombardis

Here’s a blurb from someone during preseason reference needing to improve our WR options on the roster…

The plan is to throw passes to ARSB, Jamo, LaPorta, Gibbs and Montgomery. That’s plenty. It would be nice if a #3 WR (and 6th option overall) stepped up, but it’s not imperative.

Last year those players received 421 of Goff’s 605 pass attempts. Another 64 went to Reynolds and I think those can easily be absorbed by the guys above. That accounts for 485 targets.

Now, we all expect Gibbs to get more targets in the pass game, so let’s bump him from 71 last year to 90 this year (and that’s conservative imo). Let’s say LaPorta has an even stronger rapport with Goff and earns another ten targets. Monty only had 24 so let’s leave him and ARSB about the same. Then there’s Jamo. I think the plan is to get him anywhere from 5-8 touches per game. Those won’t all be passes, but let’s just split that range down the middle and say 6.5 touches, for a season-long number of 111.

That’s 519 non-rushing touches to our pass-catchers. When you figure another 30 to our backup TEs and RBs, and another 50+ to our WR4 and lower (last year Leaf had 44 targets alone), that pretty much covers all of Goff’s passes. A viable WR 3 won’t move the needle all that much.

Man-u haven’t heard? Vikings are winning this division, Bro-mart.

With the amount of injuries in the nfl… I’ve always thought the trade deadline should be after teams have played at least 10 games…trade deadline hits the Lions after 8 games played this year.

Baseball for example…trade deadline is about 60 percent through the season.

Ha, yeah, that’s from me.

And honestly I stand by the point. At the time I thought Green, DPJ or Smith would be good enough. But I changed my tune when they got hurt and it became clear DPJ was a bust. We needed to add someone. But because of everything I said, I didn’t think we had to spend much on it. And I didn’t think it would be a problem to find one, either. Faith in Brad.

If you look at later posts, I talk about the “sacrificial X” that Matt Harmon has made popular. That’s all we needed him for our X, not to be a target hog (for the reasons mentioned). Someone to block, make the defense at least pay attention to him, and come through when his number is called. That’s it. And that’s exactly what Patrick has given us (as you can see, he’s not a target hog).

I’m almost positive the trade deadline will be moved back again. There has been talk of it from teams reported by the insiders.
The added Wild Card keeps more teams in contention longer.
The NFL is the only one of the Major 4 that have such an early deadline.

Which is exactly my point. It’s the most dangerous of all the 4 sports and yet the deadline is super early. Lets say a team has 2 good corners at the deadline. No moves. 1 week later both corners get injured. Still half a season to go… But it’s too late to make a trade.

This board is filled with diverse opinions and it was that way on this issue.
I, like you, emphasized the need for a big bodied X receiver pre-draft, but I didn’t feel the desperation that some did.

I don’t think Brad was desperate.
I have said from the beginning that the Holmes view of the WR3 was a minimum salary type position.
He didn’t panic and trade for a WR3 as many were suggesting, he didn’t sign vets like OBJ that were seeking big salaries. He calmly gave the guys on the roster a chance to win the position, and when they didn’t, he signed experienced vets after the last camp cuts.

To be honest, I agreed with this assessment then and I agree with this assessment now. Tim Patrick has been cool, but let’s be honest, he’s averaging 2.1 targets a game. He’s made the most out of them for sure, but I’m not buying into the Tim Patrick is the catalyst of the offense and that’s why they’re cooking now. They barely played any preseason snaps - it takes time to get going. Additionally, the Lions just scored 52 points in a game that their WR3 had 1 target and zero receptions (In a game that their WR2 was suspended in, no less).

This isn’t a dig at Patrick. I love him and honestly hope he can get a solid 2 year deal because he fits what the Lions do. But the truth is, he doesn’t have to do a lot because of the talent on this offense and the amount of craziness going on about replacing Josh Reynolds this offseason was way over the top, imo.

The deadline should be between weeks 11 and 12 minimum. 50% of the way through the reg season schedule is asinine. They’re only hurting themselves because, as we’ve clearly seen on here (guilty as charged) NFL fans are really into it. As injuries mount, the activity would be fervent later in the year. They’re missing the mark here.

Because a certain few posters know better. I know this because they tell me so over and over ad nauseum.

And, he was already on the team!

Because I trust Brad/Dan. Hey, we did figure out a way to score 52 without our #2 WR. :innocent:
