Penn st QB done - do we pull another HH in the next sraft

This kid can’t go back to college to play now. Would have to be drafted post surgery and rehabilitation….. would he be worth it

No way for me. Allar has never impressed me. Penn State’s QB play is one of the reasons no one is scared of them. They win with defense and their run game. Their QB only knows how to throw to the TE. Even before the injury, I never thought of him more than a very late round or UDFA guy.

Allar is a terrible fit for our offense, and he’s really just not that good anyway.

Why do you say that?

I actually think he was a terrible fit for the Kotelnicki offense and would fare better in a pro style offense.

I wouldn’t draft him high but either he or Beck on day 3 would be fine. We can’t afford to go QB early. Too many urgent needs.

Give me
Kyle Allen and Bryce Young

Use the draft pick on CB, S, LB, OT, C

I don’t love the idea of pissing away resources on that position with Goff having it locked down for the better part of the next decade.

If Brad thinks a qb is the best value when it’s time to pick, so be it, but the odds on that seem long to me. QB as a position is so overdrafted that it seems nearly impossible to have one as the BPA outside of the first few picks.

With you completely here. My hope would be OT at 32 and we find our Simmons. Then CB, C, LB, S in that order. I’d take any project CB later on just for extra depth.

It does get tricky if we’re a two rostered QB team.

Do you think he can process well enough to play in a pro style offense? Also, do you rhink he has the touch required to make short to intermediate throws?

Probably not. He was terrific in the opener against Pitt in 2023 and then regressed horribly and that’s the last we’ve seen of him in something reminiscent of what we would run. I would only be interested in buying very low with him. The tools are all there.

He made such a massive mistake not coming out last year.

Here are the QBs that I think I actually believe in to varying extents:

Moore (rough game today but still believe)

Mendoza

Raiola (needs to tighten up decision making and learn to dirt it)

Lagway (gonna die on this hill.)

Sayin

Underwood

Washington

Sagapolutele

Probably not there yet on Bear and the UNT kid but I see it. I’m sure I’ll be head over heals for Russell once he debuts.

Anyways, so QB options seem better into the future IMO. And that fits our timeline better as well

He’s got tools for days though. And how good of coaching did he get?

Again, we’re talking day 3 here. And we’re probably not the fit bc we keep 2 QBs. But if I’m using a day 3 pick on a developmental QB then I want tools.

I wonder how Sayin’s size is going to translate to the NFL. He’s not as short as Bryce or Kyler but he’s definitely small. Both height and weight wise.

He has a ton of NFL traits, but I don’t know if his frame is going to allow him to be super successful at the next level.

Simpson I believe should be a first round draft pick. I’ve been sold on that for a while now.

I agree with most everything else you said…especially about Lagway.

You could be right on Sayin. And it’s probably meh arm strength by NFL standards. But I think the accuracy is special. With almost all QBs system will matter and he’ll definitely be better in a WC YAC driven scheme then something that asks him to really drive the ball with regularity.

I like Simpson too. Maybe I should have included him. It’s still such a small sample size but he’s got the tools and seemingly the composure/moxie. And Sellers may still make it. There are plenty of interesting maybes. I just feel best about the group that I mentioned.

I want the Lions to draft Taron Dickens someday….

the record setting QB from Western Carolina….

and then have him partner with an Apple Orchard in Michigan….

so they can sell hard apple cider…..

.

That reminds me of a No Fear shirt that I was forced to wear inside out in the 7th grade.

Well, it worked out so well here with Hendon Hooker I can totally see Brad jumping right back in and doing it all over again.
