HOF yes, no , it’s baseball who cares.
- Hell yes, put him in the HOF
- Hell no, he gambled on bball, rules are rules
- Baseball, why do I care
HOF yes, no , it’s baseball who cares.
I say yes, but I am not passionate about it, so I will refrain from clicking the ‘hell yes’ button.
Manfred waits until a garbage HoF class to juice it with Shoeless Joe and Rose, who should walk in 1st ballot easy breezy.
Beltran probably makes it, ok. Andruw Jones will be the big debate in his last year. No one else living on that ballot is getting in ever (Sorry Utley, counting stats)
I will probably end up voting yes, yet, I struggle with it.
He clearly violated MLB rules I type as I watch on Fanduel regional sports. Gambling advertising is prevalent on every pro sports known to man.
Caveat, make sure you don’t place a bet sitting in your car on the company parking lot, that, will get you suspended.
■■■■■■■ hypocrites.
I pass on Andrew Jones, I lived in ATL his entire career, just don’t see it.
He’s dead.
Was obviously a hall of fame player.
I Don’t care about hall of fame matters in any sport…,
but the fact that they did this less than a year after his death is pretty shittty if you ask me.
Exactly what I was thinking… Wait til he dies then make him eligible!? Seems like a dick move
I am an outlier but no strong feelings on the matter. Need to know more.
To me the only outcome that seems justified for this BS situation is for the league to offer, and the Rose camp to reject it and have their own memorial for the public that loved him. He made his name in “baseball.” But at this point, the MLB doesn’t deserve to be able to capitilize on his name.
Why is gambling on yourself to win or do good or exceed expectations illegal?
I can see why gambling on yourself for “the under”
Because point shaving and cheating.
But why the ■■■■ is it not allowed for Pat Mahomes to bet on himself to win the Super Bowl and the MVP
Same
Rose was the manager at the time he bet.
Rules are rules until they’re not. Just like laws being laws until they’re not.
If they’re not enforced, then do they exist?
I had heard this story (while I was in Cooperstown) that the main thing that kept Rose out was this:
Mike Schmidt and Joe Morgan (two HOFers in their own right, and former teammates of Rose) organized a meeting between Rose and Bud Seilig, the commissioner at that time.
Bud AGREED to lift the ban and re-instate Rose, on the condition that he publicly apologize for what he did, admitting it was wrong and to stop gambling and doing events in casinos. Rose agreed.
Pete Rose left the meeting—AND FLEW TO LAS VEGAS AND ATTENDED AN EVENT AND GAMBLED ALL WEEKEND!! Selig was pissed.
THAT’S why Pete Rose was never re-instated. He was a lying asshole.
Managerial decisions on when to use players (especially pitchers or players with small injuries), try harder during games he bet on vs accepting a loss without effort a lot of effort if he didn’t bet on game (save bullpen for later date).
So he can’t try to win the game?
When you owe a half million to Vinny from Newark, and he “asks” you leave the starter out there through the 8th against the Dodgers, or not to play the shift against Jim Thome, or to pull Reggie Sanders or Eric Davis after one at bat…
So he can’t try to win the game?
not sure what you mean.
I always hoped Pete would go in…posthumously.
