I always interpreted the ratings to be out of all starting guards/tackles. So Havenstein would be 14 out of 64 and Edwards 18 out of 64 (or probably more than 64 based on what PFF considers eligible players) which isn’t bottom half but pretty solid.
why worry about who says $@#! about the overall quality of ‘Our’ Offense at this point…before we even had preseason play !?
who the F KNOWS at this time and how can you “rank” teams’ lines before any game has been played , guess I don’t get it. frustrates me more than anything .
Here is the thing though Air. What is better that us fans have available to them? I don’t live and die by PFF, but until someone else watches every snap and provides what they see, it’s better than nothing at all IMO. If I could call up Bill Belechick and ask him if Vaitai sucked or not, I’d do it. I think PFF is somewhere between “completely useless” and gospel. Regardless it’s about the best we have access to. If you’ve come across anything better, please share and I’m not being flippant. You’ll never hear “our guy sucks” from our staff who would know the assignments. Heck they are propping up freaking Tavai right now and saying Vaitai is going to be great. I may not know assignments like coaches do, but I can tell you that both of those guys sucked major donkey balls last year, Patricia or no Patricia.
It’s a relative measure, but I think it’s of limited utility outside of skill positions, i.e. WRs, TEs, QBs, and RBs.
You just have to realize what it is and take what they put out with a grain of salt that’s all.
Unfortunately some fans hang their hat on everything they say like it has real merit. But the truth is that’s it’s all 100% opinion and has no more merit than what most knowledgeable fans have.
Fair, and for me it’s just another data point, but the fact is they do evaluate (someone for them) every snap and we fans don’t. That in and of itself makes it unique as far as what fans have access to. Eventually trends will establish themselves. I get BB going hey on this one play dot dot dot. But if someone gets a crap grade over 400 snap evaluations, I think the reality is they probably suck. Scheme understanding or not.
I disagree with being bottom top 10. I think we are top of middle 10.
I feel like we could have continuity issues and rookie mistakes. I feel like they have top 5 potential by mid-late season.
I like the talent, but don’t know exactly what to expect form RG or Sewell moving to the RT spot. He’ll do well, but how well?
That’s middle of the top 10. I’d rather be top of the middle 10.
LOL. We’re usually middle of the bottom 5
In 2020 Patricia had our defense 2nd best of the bottom 2.
LOL - It’s allll about perspective, man!
before its all said and done we’ll be between the middle and the middle of the bottom of the top 10. Or maybe the top to the middle of the top of the middle 10.
I’m really enjoying this conversation. LOL.
I think you are right. And I also wouldn’t be surprised to see us in the top 2 of the bottom 20.
Our WR’s will make our O-line look worse than they really are.
I’ve literally never thought about it like that. Now I’m literally rethinking a ton of stuff from a new and improved perspective.
