Put TJ Hockenson on IR

We will not win this season with this defense so we must protect his brain. The hit by the Oakland player shouldn’t have caused a concussion. This indicates he never healed from the hurdling concussion. Playing Nauta, James and Logan is a better option than having Hockenson play useless games that could result in a chronic condition.

I agree. At this point in a loss season the Lions might as well start protecting their investments. This will also allow Logan Thomas some jump ball practice.

Any player who has more than 1 concussion in the same season should automatically go on IR. The risk of causing brain damage is too high.

I can’t say I that disagree with this. We should probably do the same for Snacks since he can’t seem to get the groin injury healed up.

He hasn’t been the same since the concussion anyway. Something is wrong.

Just IR him.

I like how fans want to give up every season and then complain about our record afterwards

Can we add Hand to that list? With that jacked up elbow.

#1, I want to protect Hockenson so he has a long productive career. #2, you are dreaming if you think we still have a legitimate shot at the playoffs this year.

But why give up on the season and then bitch that we are losing? Isn’t losing what you want? Yay, we get an earlier draft pick because we mailed it in halfway thru the year! Yippee!

Bitching about the season is not the point of the post. Protecting our #1 draft pick is the focus of the post.
If we lose a game or two because of it then no big deal. It’s not like he is the make or break it player of the offense, aka Stafford.

Yes, you are bitching about the season and throwing in the towel after 8 games. If TJ can play, he needs to be out there playing, not sitting on the sidelines in sweatpants.

Has it been reported that he suffered a concussion?

You have to know when to cut your losses. Now’s the time. Protect your investments. Get a high draft pick and try again next year.

I think you’re missing the point. TJH hasn’t been some great impact player. Playing him after 2 concussions in the hopes of winning 8 games instead of 7 isn’t very smart. He helped us tie a terrible team in week 1. Since then, he’s had little impact catching the ball and even less in run blocking. Benching him isn’t the same as benching someone like Snacks who isn’t a rookie and who can play thru a leg injury and not cause himself real long term damage. Look, our playoff chances went bye bye. No need to risk your #1 offseason investment for the sake of adding a meaningless W to the total, again, not that he’s been a difference maker at all.

I’m trying to figure out what you guys are saying that’s different than what I’m saying that you are saying? You are bitching and complaining and throwing in the towel on the season after 8 games. Then after throwing in the towel, you will continue to bitch and complain about not winning, and then spend years after this season bitching and complaining about what our record was.

How am I missing the mark? Please explain. But hey, at least we’ll get an earlier draft pick. Those always turn out well.

You’re missing the mark, because:

#1 We are talking about a single player. We are not saying to bench all starters and tank on purpose.
#2 We have accepted that this season is over, and want to protect a young investment. Nothing more, nothing less.

Of course whether we end up with 6,7 or 8 wins, it really doesn’t matter. And yes, we will all bitch throughout the offseason, because the results are still bad. A lot of us hated that draft pick and also hated overpaying for free agents the good franchises were willingly letting walk away. We are where we are for a reason.
For this topic, though, even though the #8OA pick will NEVER be justified, in my opinion, I/we still don’t want this to turn into a Jahvid Best situation, all for the sake of winning a meaningless nail biter against Denver in December. Shut him down and get his head right, both physically and psychologically.

Yes, you’ve given up on the season. Thrown in the towel. Now its time to start sitting players. And you will bitch about winning meaningless games…then turn around and bitch that we lost meaningless games. The common thread is…you’ve given up and just want to bitch about stuff. I get it.

You don’t care how many games we win, as long as you get to bitch about it before, during and afterwards.

For me, I just see too much of Jahvid Best in Hock’s injury. That was a really bad concussion. As bad as Best’s. At any rate, I’ll let the doctors sort it out.

I thought he was done for the season immediately after he landed on his head and left the game.

He probably wasn’t fully recovered by the first concussion. Some say concussions are cumulative and it takes less of a hit to bring on another one. This is very concerning to me in terms of the rest of his career. We’ve all experienced the horror when Jahvid Best had to retire. The Lions are still cursed!

What’s wrong with you? We didn’t say sit “players”. It’s 1 player. TJH. The one who came off a bad looking head injury and looked like he suffered another one last night.

Of course the season is over. Benching a rookie who has had his brain rattled a couple times, is being smart and not jeopardizing the future. It’s called a good business decision.

Why do you want to risk that in a season that is over, as far as reaching any goals?

You are all in on throwing a concussed rookie out there, so long as we get to 6 wins instead of 5? WTF is wrong with you? Did you take the over in Vegas for the season win total or something? That must be it. Otherwise, no rational person would be opposed to shutting him down with 2 significant issues in a half season. Which is why nobody is agreeing with you. Be sensible, man. There are more important things than doing stupid shit to win an extra meaningless game.

Again, it’s not like TJH has been the difference in W’s and L’s this year either. He’s a struggling rookie that had his noodle scrambled hard. We have back ups. I think the OP has a good point. You’re just being ignorant for the sake of arguing.
