One quote from Agnew sums up the whole interview for me…
“If the guy doesn’t fit what we looking for….
then we just NOT gonna take him.”
.
Loyalty - he never called out players by names! Protecting his kids!!
Assassin is relentless - my hope is he becomes the Egyptian version of Reggie white!!
Good stuff
He’s going to be a GM before too long would be my guess.
I don’t doubt that he is an asset in player evaluation for us, yet it’s hard for me to envision him as a GM. His pressers have always left me feeling that way.
What do you see or know about him that might appeal to a team looking for a GM?
Because we need to replace the teslaa picks! Dont rain on our hopes!
Was a former player and has been with Brad Holmes a number of years now as his Assistant GM. Teams want to copy what the Lions are doing and Agnew has first hand knowledge. I’m not even sure it’s something he wants to do but he’s definitely got the resume I would think.
Teams are already looking at him for GM considerations. He a solid talent evaluator, has experience as an assistant GM and has been highly praised by two separate organizations. He definitely has the resume.
He’s on the short list for future GM considerations. It’s just a matter of time. Especially if the Lions continue to win.
Really? Now perhaps he aint playing the media game. But have heard nothing. Whereas Ben and AG nonstop smoke… And they gone. Would love Agnew to get a GM job for the record.
I don’t doubt that he would be a fine GM for someone, but unfortunately there are biases he’s not likely to overcome to get that opportunity.
I was hopeful that Ray would get more of a look as GM this past cycle, especially with multiple current and former Lions interviewing for front office positions.
Ray got a couple of cursory interviews but nothing serious. It didn’t seem like AG or Ben tried to bring Ray along.
AG seemed to advocate for Lance Newmark
Brad is trying to give him more exposure with these media sessions the last few years but I think Ray has missed his window at 57 years old.
Not many men are hired as a first time GM at +58 years old.
Ray is also hurt by being in the shadow of Brad and Les Snead. Often times long associated “side-kicks” are not given much credit for the work they do to support the key decision maker.
Finally, Ray has that “old country boy” demeanor.
Many see that as a follower and not a leader.
Some owners may hesitate in placing someone with his personality at the head of their on field organization.
I hope Ray is successful in getting a GM role.
He is obviously very experienced and been a part of the construction of two winning organizations.
Whether he would make a good GM, I don’t know.
He seems like a nice guy and the Lions could always use the extra draft compensation.
While I love the idea of us getting more beans as much as anyone…we can’t be losing our handsomeness from teh squad.
I predict he gets sniped from our team at some point. Love the guy. Really good at what he does on many levels, and great for boosting any culture. Gonna suck to see him go.
I agree w/those who say Brad’s giving him more exposure/experience…Our leadership helps others to promote and advance, no mater what role in the organization you fill.

That’s pretty much what comes through for me in the few pressers I’ve seen.
How would he deal with high pressure, fluid situations like during the draft and early free-agency? Perhaps he would function well, but I wouldn’t project that for him. Of course, that’s just my impression without working knowledge of him.
