Hot: Alex DeBrincat has been unlucky when it comes to scoring in the first four games, but he’s leading the team with 15 shots on goal and six points.
Not: Forward J.T. Compher has no points, and only two shots on goal, in four games.
Spotlight: Rookie Axel Sandin Pellikka continues to earn his keep as a second pairing defenseman. He’s averaging 20:43 minutes per game. ASP is looking for his first NHL point.
Absence: Lucas Raymond (upper body) is still day-to-day. He did practice Thursday. “Wasn’t a hard, strenuous, physical practice, so I’m sure he handled himself well,” Coach Todd McLellan said.
Story: John Gibson (0-1, 8.07 GAA, .615 save percentage) starts in goal for Detroit, his first outing since losing 5-1 on opening night. “He didn’t have a bad outing. We had a bad outing,” McLellan said. “He just happens to wear different equipment than everybody else.”,.. Patrick Kane is six goals from becoming the fifth U.S.-born player in NHL history to score 500 goals, joining Mike Modano (561), Keith Tkachuk (538), Jeremy Roenick (513) and Joe Mullen (502). Kane (1,348 career points) is also 27 points away from passing Mike Modano (1,374) for the most NHL points by a U.S.-born skater. Kane boasts 14 game-winning goals since Jan. 13, 2024, trailing only Sebastian Aho (15), Matt Boldy (15), Leon Draisaitl (15) and Brayden Point (15) for the most among all NHL skaters in that time period… Cam Talbot is 3-0 with a 1.78 GAA and .932 save percentage.

Awful line one
Huh? That line was absolutely stellar last game.
None are true number one liners. Thats a fact
And yet Appleton leads the Wings in goals. Larkin has 5 points in 4 games behind only Cat. Finnie leads the team in takeaways and is #2 in hits and is only 20 years old. Larkin and Finnie are leading the Wings at +4.
The Wings are 3-1 and have won 3 straight, with two of those being over TOR who had 108 points and won the Atlantic last season and FLA, who has won the last two Stanley cups. The only game they’ve lost is to the only team in front of them in the Atlantic this season. All of this while adding a ton of youth to their roster this season.
Imagine being negative like this for no reason at all.
Raymond did practice, albeit limited, so wouldn’t be surprised if he’s back Sunday against Edmonton.
You think appleton keeps that up? He had a empty net goal as well. Once again speaking my mind is negative. Im happy with the start btw. Just dont see all 3 top liners
Nope, because he’s not a fixture on the Top 2 lines. My expectation is that he slides back down to the 4th line since McClellan seems set on those 2nd and 3rd lines (even though that 3rd line is rough). But that takes nothing away from the fact that the Finnie-Larkin-Appleton line was by far the best line on the ice for the Wings in the one game they played together.
Let me know when the NHL stops counting EN goals as goals.
I don’t know man, hard to find any sympathy from me when the Wings are playing so well and of all the things you choose to add to the conversation is the “awful line one” that was the entire reason we won the last game.

Man, Finnie is so freaking good.
We are leading in shots 8-0
12 minutes in and TB doesn’t have a shot. And they’ve had a power play. Incredible.
Boom
ASP? Or did that deflect off Appleton?
Asp
Man, that first line just blows, huh?
