Reisman nails it re: FA

Why to mock me.

No, Marty, as a reminder to the literal thousands of users and visitors who frequent this forum.

Its always going to be a quote though.

As long as the injuries to Hutch and Alim don’t result in a drop off… it is also reasonable to expect that most of the young core will continue to improve.

I even sometimes forget how many of the key players are still 25 or younger!

Yeah if, the season doesn’t start for a looong time. These type of articles are clickbait.

I’m sure the plan is to get DE(s) in the draft, especially early. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him move up for his favorite faller. It feels weird to be without Za’darius currently, but come May, we’ll have all but forgotten.

What type of articles??

Tweets, sorry. Like you didn’t know what I meant.

I actually didn’t know what you meant. But it does prove what @Tcmouse said…fans are real quick to call something “click bait” when they don’t like what they read. If you like it…then its just fine and its not click bait :person_shrugging:

Two questions for those saying we will address our G or DE needs in the draft…

  1. Has Holmes ever left this team with obvious “needs” on the roster going into the draft? Can’t really remember exactly, but it seems he has always pretty much covered our obvious needs in free agency and went into the draft with complete flexibility.

  2. Holmes has already been identified as being a BPA drafter. If that’s true, how are we pigeon holing him into targeting DE or G, or any other position once we get to the draft. Heck, he could go Safety / LB for all we know.

Honestly, I remember only last year as one where holes were filled.
Seriously. My response after both 21 and 22 was we could hold another draft the following weekend and have zero issue adding 7 new players to the 53.

24 had a hole that still exists at WR. Matter of fact, the night of our cut to 53 had only 4 receivers… Jamo, St, Lif and Isaiah freaking Williams. Bad close to only 3.
The Edge help we had was a 1-year rental, so DE still needed love (and didn’t get it).

The “fills holes” thought is a bit overstated, IMO, based on how close last year came.

I think we’re entering the draft with clear needs at WR and Edge again. We’re also going to have DB holes to fill that you wouldn’t want to spend free agent money on (CB5, S4).

(I will say that I 100% agree he’s strictly BPA and isn’t penciling in “Pick 28” as starting this or starting that.) That said, I do believe they have a sense enough of the talent to expect certain positions to present more options than others in early rounds. They’re not passing up superior talent at any position, if they’ve identified that player as a Lion prospect. Because, “not everyone can be a Lion”. (I’m going to wear that out.)

He’s never left us with gaping holes, but he sometimes addresses some positions more strongly that others. Last year for instance, almost everyone agreed that while adding Davis and Amik was good, it wasn’t nearly enough. Turned out Brad agreed and hammered CB.

Now it was nice that the need lined up with BPA (even if it required a trade-up for one), but I think he knew he’d have CB options, just like I think he knows he’ll have DL and OL options this year. That doesn’t necessarily mean it has to be addressed in the 1st, but it COULD be. Honestly it doesn’t have to be addressed at all if it falls a certain way, he won’t reach for need over BPA just like he didn’t in 2023 when Witherspoon got sniped from us and he pivoted away from CB. But I suspect he thinks the likelihood of that this year is pretty low. It’s a DEEP DL class.

this is why I say our super bowl window is short. we rebuilt a team really well with a ton of cheap contracts because rookies, and then proceeded to completely choke two years in a row in the playoffs.

This is a hell of a test for drafting. They have done really well so far, and I don’t see that changing really, but man how hard are these decisions going to be on keeping certain people over others of similar talent?

I always default to there is only one team technically a winner each year. The other 31 failed at the goal upon starting regular season

For me, at least now, we don’t suck as much the last two years and we were in the running for making the SB two yrs in a row!!

I prefer we suck less than more!!
