Has anyone else seen or heard this? I can’t imagine Speilman wanting to go to the Jets.

Just saw the thread above… Mods please feel free to merge this or remove it.

No…I won’t allow this;

Maybe there’s just mining him for information about the Lions culture.

His bro Rick is trying to destroy us from within.

Maybe they want to bring him in for that reason….he and Aaron Glenn

I’d be happy for him. I do question how he would get along with Woody Johnson.

I always assumed Speilman is a bigger part in the front office than he has ever let on. I mean his ubiquitous job title is pretty unspecific as to his involvement. But if you’re interviewing for a GM position then you must do more than what your job entails. But then again, some guys have gotten to be a GM for much less experience.

I think Spielman has gotten the bug working with Brad and Dan.
His current role is largely ceremonial now that the program is established.
I think he and his brother believe he could do it again with the Jets.
I hope he doesn’t get the position because he would be sure to pull one of the Lion coordinators to the Jets.
Spielman is a strong enough personality to keep the ownership mess off the coach.

Well, he could probably triple his career earnings as a player by landing a GM gig, so I would take this seriously.

(Tried to find his career earnings but didn’t see it, so just guessing)

I think Rick knows the Johnson family needs a really hard dose of reality and no person is better qualified for delivering it. He may not get the job, but hopefully (if you’re Rick) he’ll get through to them in how their own efforts are damaging to the organization.

I would absolutely hate this, for us and for Chris and outside of Chris wanting to run drafts, I can’t see why he would want to subject himself to Woody Johnson’s management style. Chris would have to see he would be reporting to Brick, the 18 year old Madden expert.

I’d imagine the Jets wanted to talk to Chris to ask about how the Lions built their culture.

Woody: Hello Chris? Woody Johnson from the Jets. We would like to talk to you about our organization and get some insights.
Chris: Sure, ask away.
Woody: What is it you think right now we are doing well as an organization?
Chris: Absolutely nothing.
Woody: Ok, thanks. What would you say we need to change?
Chris: Absolutely everything.
Woody. Thanks for your time Chris!

Chis bleeds Honolulu Blue, but that job along with AG and whoever else the could poach could be aweful tempting. He’d have to demand full control though.
Oh, Detroit Lions podcast posted it too.

WE should get 2 comp picks since he is a minority. Think about it … A Ohio State player who is loved in Michigan.

Oh, those rotten bastards…

Spielman understands the situation and can demand the structure in Detroit if he took the job. It is likely the only way Ben Johnson would even consider the Jets.
Ben may have gotten Chris the interview.

I refuse to believe it and dont accept him leaving

Exactly. Wouldn’t be shocked at all if he’s gotten the itch for more skin in the game now that he’s more or less done what he set out to do here.

That said I’d be very surprised if he got the gig this year. In the future though? With his bro as his assistant GM? Yeah that could happen.

I’m curious if he and Glenn could become a package deal there.
