Report: Za'Darius Smith to Detroit by tonight or tomorrow, or never

It’s not ‘meh.’ It’s that the guy who is running the team is responsible for turning a lump of coal into a ■■■■■■■ diamond, so, you know, we like … trust that he knows what he’s doing.

Rakestraw is a rookie that is developing that could turn into an All Pro for all we know - cannot judge him yet. Maybe he replaces CD3 next year, nobody knows. And we’ll have to disagree on Paschal/Levi - Levi is having a good year (better than a min vet FA and Paschal if he stays healthy is a good rotational piece). Iffy is a good player IF he can get/stay on the field. Manu is in the same boat as Rakestraw. A good team doesn’t rely on rookies to start, they allow them time to develop so when you have to let some guys leave due to salary cap obligations, they are ready to step in. Hence why having draft picks and developing guys on rookie contracts is so critical.

With all of that said, yes, I hope the Lions make a move. But not for an excessive amount of draft capital. I’m not a draft guru, so I trust the Lions brass to have appropriately calculated the price better than my WAG.

I’ll never understand how fans of a team that was as bad as we were for so long can be so soft

Lol you waited 4 years for Levi to do anything at all and will wait until year 3 for Rakestraw and Manu. Then they will have to sign a new deal. I don’t think you understand where the value in drafting rookies is. The value is when you have Laportas and Branch of the world which can come in and produce right away. You trade pick for a player like Landry you are getting 1.5 years of proven production or can keep pick and get 2 years of a player like Manu IF you’re lucky enough that he pans out.

So Landry was a 2nd round pick, if they are willing to unload him for a 5th or 6th guess what…he has not played up to his value either!

Is he a better option then what we have…perhaps but let’s not resend like he is going to move the needle…so like you proposed let’s gets Smith, so the snowball starts rolling down the hill and YES we start mortgaging the future!

I wonder how much the naysayers here will continue to move the goal posts if and when the Lions start signing guys in order to still crap on what the Lions do and make themselves feel better.

Lol…think you don’t understand value. If Rake and Manu take 3 years to develop, what is their value exactly? If a team is desperate then let them sign them and take the comp pick.

If they are slow to develop then we can always resign them for a value/prove it deal that benefits both parties…not sure how long you have been following the head college scout guy but he has made numerous deals such as this!

Yeah…. That’s not how it works. Landry is turning 29 and on his 2nd contract. Where he was selected in the draft is not relevant lol. Fans are obsessed with the “future” they can’t even see what’s in front of them right now

Why cant we just agree on the lions . We want them to win instead pointing fingers. I mean lions would be better with edge help, :person_shrugging:

Nobody disagrees.

There are a couple who just posting to prove their wisdom and I doubt they really give a crap about Detroit.
Just because something hasn’t happened as of this minute doesn’t mean nothing will happen.
4pm tomorrow.

Please don’t insult my intelligence on not understanding the value of rookie contracts/drafting rookies. Yes, in a perfect world, that happens - but that’s not reasonable to expect most rookies to do that on a GOOD team. Levi would have contributed sooner but health didn’t allow that which is unfortunate. And I had no idea you could predict Rakestraw won’t contribute until year 3 - I missed that update on his progress from Dan and the coaches. I’ll give you the point on Manu as that’s a pretty big gamble the Lions took. Anyhow, I’m way off topic now - nobody officially knows what the market is for DE’s because it hasn’t happened yet. I’m down a rabbit hole now I didn’t intend. Hopefully the Lions can get better between now and 4PM tomorrow. We’ll see how it goes.

Bring Back The Lions trade “Rumors” incoming Thread!
