Roadmap to top five pick

Still a chance we could climb and get Parsons

Parsons might not go as high as people think. Granted the circumstances are different, but sitting out the year isn’t going to help him impress a team counting on him to suit up on Sundays and make an impact.

I don’t think it has any bearing. Many pros did the same thing. It’s a pandemic. Not like he sat out a normal year to protect himself and his draft stock.

Spend a top 10 pick on an off the ball LBer that didn’t even play this year?!?

Efiing Brilliant!

Sweet haul of Hock, Okudah, and Parsons…You’re going places!

Parsons is a stud and we would be lucky to add him to our defense.

Parsons is going to have an amazing combine and regain whatever he lost in draft value from not playing IMO.

Ok, you make a point with the positions those guys play and where we would be drafting them, but if you disagree with spending a high pick on Parsons, I’ll ask you to name a better defensive talent in the draft.

I don’t care how talented he is, like chess, their is a positional hierarchy we must adhere to to build a football…You’ve already squandered two top 8 picks on low level pieces, you damn well better not do it a 3rd time

I don’t see a problem spending a top ten pick on a versatile LB who can cover, stop the run, and rush the passer. Especially when we don’t have an NFL quality LB on the team. Every year these types of guys go top 5-10. Not as rare as a TE going that high

Parsons is being compared to Kuechly in a good way. He could be a game changing defender

Ok, so you’re comfortable rolling out Jahlani Tavai as a starting NFL linebacker for another season?

I’m simply saying that he might be available even if the Lions aren’t drafting Top 3. Do you think the Colts would draft Andrew Luck with the benefit of hindsight, knowing he would retire so early due to health concerns? Would we have drafted Mike Williams after he sat out a year?

Like I said, circumstances are different, but don’t think that isn’t going to be a point of consideration when someone is sitting there with the third overall pick.

Yes, players were given the opportunity to opt out, penalty free. Anyone who believes this very conversation won’t take place amongst teams picking up high are putting the horse blinders on to reality. People are going to be very cautious about selecting someone who opted out in the franchise cornerstone echelon of the draft.

LBers like Parsons are a rare talent and often go top 5 in the draft.

I suspect that he will go between 5-9 in this draft.

Look at recent drafts to see that versatile LBers are much more valuable and going far higher these days. There have been 5 LBers selected in the top 10 in the last 3 drafts.

Will a team be concerned that he hasn’t played a down in a year, yes. Will they be concerned he opted out because of Covid, no.

The second is going to all but mitigate the first. There may be some apprehension by some teams, but most teams are going to look past it.

It’s a pandemic. A lot of college players opted out. A lot of pro players opted out. We will still be dealing with the pandemic when the draft occurs, so why players opted out will still be very apparent.

He is the top defensive talent in the draft. He will be the first guy drafted on the defensive side of the ball. So yeah… probably top 5

What a team-first mentality, “opting out.”

Real Spielman type guy there.

If you want to ignore players because they sat out because of COVID… then you will pass on 2 of the best players in the draft. 2 blue chip talents. Chase and parsons should not have played this year. Why would they endanger their entire careers and family livelihoods to play like a half messed up, broken college season for free? When they are absolutely going to go top 10?

I think it all depends on how players like Micah spent the offseason. Some are likely doing hard core workouts and improving their draft stock. Some are just having fun at college.

Parsons might not make it to #10 overall. I could see a couple teams wanting to move up to #10 range to grab their “QB of the defense” just like Pittsburgh did.

I think the best we can hope for is to pick #6 or 7. Even if some of the 4-10 teams wins a game, our strength of schedule is the weakest of all those teams bunched-up there.
Our SOS is .507 and the Vikes are 6-9 which is .400.

If we are in the top five and either Wilson or Fields are there (and we like them) then that’s the route we should go.

If Stafford is put in that position he will probably ball out next year. Rehab his value, sell high on him and roll with the new kid in ‘22.

I would tend to agree. 6-8 is the likely range IMO.
