Per Benjamin Albright and Tony Pauline. Take that random Titans fan with 4k YouTube subscribers and no real sources. Also, this is trending, unlike that Harbaugh clickbait garbage.
It makes sense, and presents the best optics. That screams a Ford decision. So does putting out feelers to let everyone know what they are thinking, so people then can say the Ford’s made the best decision.
I think Saleh is a great candidate, but I still would interview everyone I possibly could. The Tomlin/Steelers story still rings true. However, the Ford family is also good at getting snowed under for interviews, so even that process isn’t fool proof. You show me something you think is foolproof, and I will introduce a Ford to prove you wrong.
Apparently John Dorsey’s name is being linked with us too, but it is early.
There’s going to be so many rumors the next 6 weeks. There’ll be bunch of leading candidates every week. These so called insiders want to make noise & be noticed.
Yep and that’s exactly why I’m not liking this, and it has nothing to do with Saleh.
Now we are focusing in, again, on someone who’s a “perfect fit” just like Mooch, and handicapping the decision making.
And who says Saleh even wants the job? He’s done pretty well for himself, if he’s smart he’s probably a bit wary of the job, offer, the hometown thing, all that.
Unfortunately, it’ll likely be closer to 12. You know how this is going to play out… there’s going to be someone they’re interested in that makes a deep run into the playoffs, delaying when anything will be announced. Bieniemy alone could be holding up a number of dominoes. We may be unsure until after the Superbowl.
unfortunately we know this drill all too well.
At the end of the day there are still on 32 HC’s in the NFL!!
I get that we may not be the most desirable, but at days end you can’t “hold out” since what your holding out for may never come and you may not be “their guy” when it does.
Only so many HC positions to go around for alot of potential candidates.
They made a few great points about Eric B. He is just another long line of Andy Reid disciples who are not Andy Reid. Pederson, Nagy before him. I want NOTHING to do with EB.
Kinda with you there…I’m milqtoast on Bienimy…we already tried something similar with Patricia, hoping a great coach rubbed off on him, not sure I want to do that again.
So i was wondering what these guys meant by EB’s troubled background crap…and so i googled…shit…hell no do I want this guy in Detroit. Too much drama after 3 years of nonsense.
What I just looked into was that Robert spent three seasons in Seattle which overlapped with Darrell Bevell being there too. They spent three years working on the same staff.
My point is that if Darrel does a great job with the offense but the team loses I could see Darrell staying on as Robert’s OC as they know each other, they had success together and Darrell seems like a positive guy to be around.
Normally I don’t like coaches keeping staff members around (Patricia with Jim Bob for example…a move I liked at the time but felt like it would have been smarter to rip the band aid) but a move like this makes sense.
Very well said!
Sweet!
Would this increase the likelihood that we get to keep the ST coach as well?
Could also bring in dan Quinn as a DC/asst HC which would totally help Saleh out as well.
Good point. I think Dan Quinn’s next job in the NFL will be as a defensive coordinator rather than HC. He’d be a great DC for any team.
Great points. They say Daniels in San Fran is really the brain child behind the offense in San Francisco. If that is the case I think I would prefer him to Bevel, especially if we do move Stafford. They say he won’t be a OC for much longer, take one more OC position to solidify his success and then take a HC position in a year or two. Similar path to what Kyle Shanahan did. It would be nice to be on the cutting edge of offensive production for a change.
Maybe on keeping Bevell in that situation, but if the next 5 games are filled with: AP, AP, 3rd and long…then we know that that wasnt Patricia, and Bevell can hit the bricks.
I’d love to see a more unleashed and creative offense…and no more of this stupid run run pass…run run pass…oh wait, it’s hard to convert 3-9 when you aren’t the chiefs…GO FIGURE! LOL.
The early name is almost always not the correct one. Whether it is a VP pick, coaching hire, draft pick, etc…
If Spielman were to be given the GM job and wanted an identity of an aggressive defensive team and felt Saleh was a good fit it would be possible. At that point they would need to bring in an OC that is a top talent and not somebody’s assistant to try and duplicate whatever someone else is doing. Duplicating is never the right choice.
I would like to see the Lions get a real football junkie like Spielman in the GM role. Quinn proved to be a snot nosed punk that never played anything which left a huge gap in his understanding of how speed really factors into the NFL game. Spielman would have looked at Tabor and seen nothing whatsoever as he was not good at any one aspect of the position. Same goes for Davis, who doesn’t know squat about what he is doing.
