I know he is a good athlete with the great RAS, but I said best athlete WITH ALL the good metrics (hence the build - height, long arms, etc…). The knock on him was short arms and not being able to get off blocks in the NFL. It’s is why he dropped so far in the draft, too many GM’s believe you need ALL these. So my point was those metrics (height, arm length) isn’t as important as having vision and natural instincts, which he has a ton of!!

OK, then we’re both on the same page, brother. Sorry I mis-read your intent, I thought you were talking about athletic metrics (speed, explosiveness, strength), not anthropomorphic ones (height, weight, length).

The dude has heart, enthusiasm, a willingness to learn, and innate talent. I know still just in the preseason, but I think at the end of the day we will have a real steal on our hands. Good video from Woodward Sports posted today:

sorry … that’s what i get for not checking my facts. Anyway, want to make sure all us Rodrigo fans see this awesome youtube vid. Watch him level a 350# lead blocker at the 1:18 mark if you’re still wondering if he’s “big” enough. He has leverage on every player he faces: get low, hit up, adios. Beautiful. And obviously amazing instincts and football iq, as we all know now.

What’s cool is that ou can read his energy…he’s actually dialing it back a little bit in practice. hahahahah!
He’s gonna hit much harder in games…watch and see.

It’s like when you teach little kids to box out…the ones who have wrestled, will do ANYTHING to get position to rebound…you have to tell them “you can’t do that, buddy.” Kids who haven’t had any sort of wrestling or martial arts are nervous to even touch another kid and it’s awkward for most of them. Rodrigo is teh kid who wrestled and subconsciously has a different level of aggression that comes from a different mindset.

love it

I keep thinking about Rodrigo, which in turn makes me think of how much of a bust Jarad Davis is, how can that guy be so bad at football, even after all these years, especially given his physical talent? Goes to show being successful in this league is mostly upstairs🧠

Stud, he’s going to be a fun one to watch develop

LOVE IT.
It’s actually not that difficult to do while standing still, but to do it in the middle of a play where ppl are moving…muuuch harder. Rodrigo has super-high athletic intelligence, and is VERY aggressive. Love that combination. He’s gonna be a good one here!

He loves doing that, there are some similar big12 highlights.

I saw some nice coverage from him, which is what we really need.

This guy did it. He came in as a sixth rounder and was a starting LB on opening day. Many of you told me to “pump the brakes”. Nope, I’m not…full speed ahead, Rodrigo!

Here’s what PFF said about him: Rookie spotlight: Lions preseason standout Malcolm Rodriguez enjoyed a strong debut, although his grade will be hampered by two missed tackles. The linebacker allowed four catches into his coverage for only 24 yards.

Almost like a judo throw using that leverage.

Yup - Wrestler
he has an amazing feel for angles, pressure, size, etc
Some of it is learned, and I’m sure a lot of it is natural as well.
