Him and his brother were supposed to be groomsmen in their Sisters wedding today.
Struck down by a drunk driver while riding their bikes.

Intoxicated at 8pm and you kill two people. I hope the courts throw the book at him. He clearly has a problem.

Big NHL fan, diehard Oilers fan, so I know Gaudreau very well from a hockey standpoint and this one hit hard when I saw it. His brother died too and they were supposed to the two groomsmen at their sisters’ wedding today not to mention that he has a wife and young kids.
Just an unimaginable tragedy that could have been avoided if this asshole had the sense to take an Uber or hand the keys to someone else like so many others do when they drink instead of getting behind the wheel. He should be behind bars for the rest of his life but with this justice system I doubt it, sadly.

Damn, sorry to hear that.
Hard to believe that drunk driving is still such a big problem in this country especially with how easy it is to access Ubers nowadays.
Unfortunately when people are super drunk they think their invisible.

This is a sucky tragedy. Especially with the sister’s wedding. Terrible. Hopefully that driver never sees the light of day. Just inexcusable.

Drunk or not this was manslaughter.
He came up on slower moving traffic. That traffic was moving slower because they had came up on the bicyclists. As that traffic moved partially into the opposing lane to go around the bikes he chose to pass on the right and hit the cyclists.
Drivers today are very impatient. Add in alcohol and the results cost two people their lives.

Yeah, in may some drunk lady about. 4 miles away from where I lived hit a ton of people kids cleaning 2 adults and there hasn’t been zero news on it. But 1 million bond though. I drink more then i should but i also know not to drink and drive even if i was tipsy

For sure. Had he not been drunk maybe he doesn’t make the same decision to swerve around the traffic. We’ll never know. Just devastating from all angles. Two families completely ripped apart.
Although I’m ashamed to admit it, there were times when I was young and stupid, where I should not have been driving. Not often, but it did happen a few times. I’m eternally grateful that nothing bad ever happened. Not just for my own sake, but I would be devastated if I hurt or killed someone else because of my own stupidity. I also would’ve been crushed to have let my family down. Maybe I got lucky and maybe this guy got unlucky. Either way, he took the risk and he has to be held accountable to the fullest. The victim’s family deserves at least that amount of justice.

I don’t mean to be insensitive…. (insert insulting “but” here)…
but I have seen too many cyclists killed or seriously injured to ever consider riding a bike on a road like that…
especially after sunset.
Riding bikes on a road after dark is the type of thing I discourage anyone from doing… and have grilled my boys about the reasons roads are more dangerous when there isn’t full daylight. I have been surprised by pedestrians and bicyclists while completely sober and not distracted. It isn’t always easy to see them depending on traffic and conditions.
Very sad… just want to reiterate we all have to keep ourselves and loved ones safe from dangerous circumstances.

Terrible tragedy. As Air said, this guy was drunk at 8PM, and passing on the right. Inexcuseable, and needs to face the full force of the law.
I cycle alot. One thing I would never do is cycle in the dark. From the time of day, it looks like they were in the dark. Still, its not their fault, but it was a risky thing to do. I wonder if they got lost and got caught on the road after sunset.

I have an E bike and I typically only ride it in my subdivision or on trails. I’ve ridden at night, but I’m extremely careful, always looking for any moving vehicle and giving it a wide berth. I would never feel comfortable riding out on a road with speed limits faster than 25 mph or through traffic lights. Too many distracted drivers out there. Not worth the risk.

This sucks. My dad’s good friend was cycling and killed by a driver in a similar manner. Driver was never caught. Bicycling in the backroads of loudon county va. My pops got the family through it…wife went into the hospital like 8 different times. So frickon horrible and sad. Its why i dont cycle.
