Salary Cap after signing draft picks

A couple of Notes:
I listed the roster with players with a significant amount of guaranteed money and only a small amount of non-guaranteed money are unlikely to not make the roster, unless they go batshit crazy. Followed by other players with guaranteed money and then players with just unguaranteed base salary. It includes estimates for rookies and is the Top 53 (instead of Top 51).

This is pretty much where the Lions need to be going into the season, $9.5M under the cap and they’ll need about $3.5M for practice squad and maybe $6M for in-season roster moves.

Also of note: Rookie pools didn’t go up the same percent as the roster cap and as a result, salaries for 2022 rookies have been adjusted (Rookie signing bonuses only went up 1%).

I would just note that some of those players (like Board and Hughes) have a portion of their salary represented in the “Signing Bonus Proration” total. Their cost for 2022 is actually 1,000,000 each, whether they’re on the roster or not. (Important to remember when we’re talking about cuts and making the final 53.) A better example is D.J. Chark. He was already paid 9 mil, which is reflected in that “proration” line.

It’s excellent work that relays exactly where the team is financially, I just wanted to mention that in case anyone is forecasting roster cuts thinking the player’s total cost for the year is represented in the guaranteed line.

Im more interested in the 2023 column.

Even with a further $20m jump in the cap that is roughly projected, and cutting Brockers, its not going to be a FA Bonanza.

Resign AO, possibly resign Chark. Replace Brockers and Analzone with draft picks, look at extending Jonah and Hock? Replace JWill.

Non capwise, decide about picking up Okudah’s 5th yr option.

You can extend Goff or toast him depending, and probably re-jigger ROkwaras deal to create some room…but reality is it’ll look like this year, adding one guy who can make a difference in a critical area of need and then backfill departures, with the Goff question aswered as either part of the draft or with an extension.

I don’t think their hand is played on Goff next off-season. I could be wrong, but I expect they’ll ride out his contract this year and next, then pay up or part ways. But, yeah, no bonanza coming. Brockers will definitely be a cap casualty if he doesn’t retire after this season or restructure.

I know they did the restructure thing once or twice last year. But they really haven’t used it have they?

Always options to create cap space if needed is someone they want becomes available.

Yea, when I did this, 2023 stuck out to me as well. We aren’t doing much of anything with the roster the way it is (unless we kick the can down the road, like so many here want). The ones pretty much guaranteed a 2023 roster spot (because of guaranteed salary) are Ragnow, Hock, Walker, Sewell, Jamo, Okudah and Hutchinson. No one is way out of line on their yearly salary other than Brockers @ $10M.

Holmes is rebuilding the roster that Quinn tried to tear apart.

He wasn’t trying, but he was succeeding wildly. That’s the type of person that is the most dangerous with with power

Overconfident, underqualified, no check or balance and locked on to one way of doing things.

Thank you president Rod Wood et al.

Who do you want long term that’s not on a rookie contract?
Decker…um.

It’s moving money around to free up cap space. Not really extending.

Salary to signing bonus type stuff.

Just wondering in case they do find someone they want to bring in at some point.

I know they moved Goff’s money around a bit, didn’t change anything on how much he was getting, just when and what it was called,

The Lions restructured Goff and Vaitai (late in the year because they ran out of money). All UFA’s that were signed to multi year contracts have been heavily backloaded. Chark/Harris/Romeo all use void years (cap charges for years not under contract). Several players have Non Likely To Be Earned (NLTBE) incentives that are closer to being LTBE and when earned will be a year end adjustment to 2023 cap.

All these were used to field this years team at the expense of future years cap dollars.

And yes, there is always ways to come up with cap space if needed/wanted.

Yup, I’d resign him in a heartbeat if he plays healthy and as good as he has
