Trust but verify. @DeadStroke , this look right? BTW, anyone looking at the Jet’s job might want to take a look at these numbers.
Yes, everything said in the article is accurate, he pretty much quoted Jason verbatim on everything from this article
Thanks!
@DeadStroke is such an asset to have here
He’s one of the guys (and there are several) that makes one arrogantly think “our board is better than your board”, as if it’s a contest.
Which, really, having perused other boards, it’s not even close.
Now the question is what will the cap be?
Cap will be announced around 2/21/25
And estimates ive seen are anywhere from
$275m - $290m
Which means the lions will be around $295-$315m!
And according to OTC the lions have about $240 spent. So 55-75m in space
Then set aside roughly $5.5 for the max practice squad, probably $15-20 million for in-season moves, $7m in draft picks, $18.8m in dead money (although OTC already takes this into account)…it goes quick.
Realistically, you’re looking at like 25-45m, depending on where the cap lands, in money that needs to be used for extensions and FA signings, which is still pretty sizeable. But I think a lot of people will see that 55-75m and think we should be trading for Maxx Crosby, resigning CD3 for $20m a year and still be able to resign everyone.
RIght now pending other moves we only have 1 player with deadcap and that is Cam Sutton at 6.5 Mil
I know there will be others but for now we only have 6.5 in deadcap
Carlton Davis will have a $9,823,456 cap hit and Davenport will carry a $2,297,500 cap hit next season. The Lions will also have Sutton’s charge plus some other small moves from releasing some other guys that is around 6.68m altogether.
I consider these dead money, though maybe the NFL doesn’t by definition, because they are being paid to a player who isn’t on the roster. OTC rolls these into active contracts right now.
This brings up a question, though, maybe @DeadStroke knows. If the Lions were to extend CD before his current contract is up, would his cap hit for the void years remain spread out since it is an extension of the original contract? To me it seems like it would.
Conversely, if CD3 wanted to test the market, would his cap hit accelerate to the 9.8m mark regardless of whether we signed him later in FA because his current contract had already expired, thus accelerating the dead cap hit?
Yes
Yes
CD3’s contract voids on 02/20, so he would have to be extended by then for the cap hits not to accelerate. I don’t think it’s a big deal though.
