Good lord what? …You don’t understand what I’m saying here…ok we don’t need to discuss further than.
You can be a more efficient run team being ranked 11th vs the team that is ranked 5th. But clearly you don’t understand what I’m talking about as you find it laughable.
I just find it “entertaining” the lengths people go to justify what they want to believe when what’s actually happening is right in front of them.
I think it’s fair if some dont think Darnold is a QB worth having/building around. Or even trust him sustaining this. Despite it being two season in a row now.
But I dont think its fair to discredit back to back playoff seasons with two different teams, Superbowl appearance, top 10 stats. At some point you have to call a spade a spade.
You just said it yourself that it’s fair to call Darnold what I’m calling him…not someone I would be thrilled to build my team around…like what “what are we doing here lol”
He played amazing to get them to the SB. He’s earned the right to play for it and in the biggest game he did a lot to get them there. But his season was average at best. Point out the positives all you want, I’m also stating facts. Their defense is the reason they had the season they had. There are reasons he put up the numbers he did…context. I’m not going to great lengths to discredit the guy. Most years Lamar Jackson has a higher passer rating than Matt Stafford. Is he the better passer? Hell no! The reasons why absolutely matter.
So I’ll throw it back at you ,”what are we doing here??”
I never said he wasn’t a big part of their success tgis season. But his season this year is just like goffs 2019 year imo and I wouldn’t say that year was good for him because of the turnovers and he passed more than darnold in a much worse situation. I just think if his defense wasn’t elite nobody would be saying he’s top 10ish that’s all. Because going by the numbers he had a down year and he wasn’t really asked to do to much. But when asked to do lot like in the championship he did rise to the occasion and I’m not taking that away from him.
I can’t say I view Darnold as a “top 10 QB” necessarily, but that doesn’t stop me from thinking he’s a good player.
I think one of the points I am trying to make is that fans often have a Ricky Bobby-like approach in the realm of “You’re either Patrick Mahomes or you aren’t” or “You’re either Tom Brady or your not”.
This binary thinking, to me, can be a bit narrow and rigid. You’re either “the goat” or “you suck”. I think the Seahawks, Vikings, (and Buccaneers if we want to include Mayfield) are proving there may possibly be another model or path to success in this day in age where “franchise” QB’s are sucking nearly ~20% of a team’s cap up.
I have to admit, I like Mayfield a lot as well. There have been multiple times in the last few years where I’ve thought that if the Lions didn’t land Goff in the Stafford trade that Mayfield would have been a great QB to lead Campbell’s grit era.
It’s easy to take Mike McMahon’s perspective. It’s like being a sports journalist who predicts 32 teams won’t win the Super Bowl - you’ll only be wrong once. It’s the inability to reevaluate a player once they have been branded with a label by the mob that I think marks the difference between lazy perspectives and thoughtful ones.
I don’t suspect any teams will give Darnold the biggest contract of all time, but I do suspect plenty of teams will be very interested if/when he becomes available after the season. The fact that teams want him, that he’s been a starter for multiple years, and that he’s had a lot of success during that time has led me to reevaluate whether or not Darnold “sucks” (such a cheap and lazy adjective in the world of sports…especially when applied to a guy who is possibly about to be a super bowl MVP).
I’m throwing $10 on Shaheed to win SB MVP +4500. Some nice returns and a TD bomb and he’s got a Desmond Howard shot.
I’m expecting like a 20-17 game so I don’t think any single player accumulates a ton of stats. Plus the story of the deadline add seems like it can fit a script haha
