It depends on what one thinks about the Colts. Personally I don’t believe they’re a real contender, I think they’ve rode a magic carpet ride and could easily regress as the season wears on and they could easily be drafting mid 1st round next year. I just don’t see them as a true contender so for a team that I think will wind up closer to middle of the pack than the top, I think it’s quite a risk to trade two 1sts for a big ticket contract player that has struggled the last two seasons.
It’s possible that Sauce is rejuvenated in a better environment and they compete for a SB the next two seasons as a result but I’m very skeptical that this is the outcome. As I said, I can respect a GM that goes for it but I don’t think this was the right move for a team like the Colts. Eagles, Bills, healthy Ravens, Chiefs? Yes, Indy? Not so sure
You guys don’t get it. You’re not getting much quality of a player with 5th round picks or later. Maybe a rental. Maybe a Z type. They may help. They may not. They may get hurt and its over. They may have a high price tag.
Draft picks like Brodric Martin are drafted in hopes they develope into superstars. These guys cost nothing for 3-4 years. Look what the Rams did with their 3rd round picks and later. Puka was a 5th rounder.
It doesn’t work that way guys. Draft picks are valuable. Being aggressive in the draft is a good thing. Building through the draft is the way to go.
Reallly? If they win the division his job security rebounds nicely IMO.
I’m in awe of the cognitive dissonance required to sit back and think, “If we just get SauceGardner then Danny Dimes is going to get us through a gauntlet of at least two of three of Allen, Mahomes and Jackson.
His seat was hot, hot, hot coming into the year. Daniel Jones crushing it has bought him another year, but their schedule has been absolute cakewalk so far. If they go out with a whimper and not advance in the playoffs, going into next year will be huge because if DJ turns back into the DJ he actually is(at least against teams with a pulse), his seat will be engulfed..
I don’t hate Ballard. He knows who is and what the Colts are, as far as image goes. The problem is that he and Eberflus (and Lovie Smith and those like them) are beholden to defensive ideals that get you cooked in the post-season. (Yes, I know Eberflus is not there anymore, but he’s in Dallas and carries with him that same philosophy that sees wide open receivers 20 yards down field in the soft part of their defensive zone)
My 1st reaction is that between this and Williams trade, they’ve just gutted the Jets defense. Are they going to give AG the patience he deserves?
