First, they serve a symbolic/metaphorical role in the show. Remember, the temper of Malice is represented by a Ram. The goats, on the other hand, are “innocents” – just like Innies. Innie-cents. “Sacrifice” means “to make sacred.”

Second, just within the context of the show, I suspect the goats were the first beings used for the Macrodata Refinement experiments, and may still be used for training new refiners. The best goat, the most “refined” goat, can be destroyed because there’s nothing more to refine in it.

The goat’s name, by the way, was “Emile,” which means “work.” In this case it would be “The Great Work,” an alchemical concept. The word also refers to “emulation,” which a “refined” person really is, an emulation of their self.

Finally, consider Irving. “Irving” means “green river.” Irving’s Innie sacrifices himself to bring back Helly R (a sort of resurrection), and he does so next to a river.

I may need 2 gummies and a tequila worm to make sense of it all.

I think it’s gonna be tricky writing season 3 in a way that the plot doesn’t just get retarded. I’m excited to watch it but also a bit concerned they are gonna ruin it, which has happened to many shows where it gets worse, not better

Agreed. They seem to be tying themselves up into a lot of very loose threads…similar to Lost. I think in the end, if the series does ever come to a conclusion, there will be some things that never make sense or are never fully explained…unless massive amounts of gummies are consumed. I’m talking enough gummies to where if I looked on the couch to my left, Ozzy Osbourne would be there breaking it all down for me.

Might need to get the toads out…gummies might not be enough.
