There’s more to being a starting caliber NFL QB/Team Leader than just talent. Just look to Ryan Leaf, Johnny Manziel or the many other talented QBs whose character got in their own way.
Sanders was drafted where he was because of his character. The kid needed to be humbled before he could be built back up. Hopefully his own head won’t get in his own way. That remains to be seen.
He’s 1-3. Has thrown for 200+ yards is 50% of his games and a 54% completion percentage. He has yet to have a QB rating above 100,
Those aren’t very good stats …. Those are back-up level stats at best…. Sanders still has a lot to prove.
Gabriel has character and that counts, I’m sure Sanders were off many draft boards including the Lions. Maybe Jerry Jones can trade for him, you know since Jerry deserves credit, that’s the move that’s going to put him over the top.
Sanders has started 3 not 4 games… and putting him in the same category as Manziel and Ryan Leaf when it comes to character? Talk about a dishonest conversation.
Also anyone questioning his character at this point is absolutely clueless. He is a multi millionaire and could’ve thrown in the towel several times already.
Falling to 5th round in draft. Being mocked and laughed at in the media. Drafted to QB graveyard in Cleveland. Own coach doesn’t want him. Starts as 4th string and has to sit behind a much worse QB in Dillon the Peashooter Gabriel.
Not once did he pout. Not once did he quit. He didn’t throw anyone under the bus. He just busted his ass and prepared for when he got his chance. 99% of young players wouldn’t have handled this with the professionalism that Shadeur did. But yeah he’s Ryan Leaf/Johnny Manziel for sure
The kid has a highly narcissitic aspect to his personality, he would have to be tested to determine if he has the personality disorder. People like that don’t often change, so you can see why teams would shy away from him. It’s a business.
Many, if not most, people do in some measure or another. It’s one thing to have the trait, but the disorder is a whole other matter. Narcissism is a stage small children go through, some are stunted at that stage.
I hear ya. In my line of work everyone thinks their ex (or soon to be ex) spouse is a narcissist. I have to explain to them that they’re probably just an asshole. A true narcissist is a rare bird.
Then again, one could say that when a personality trait interferes with your career and you don’t self correct, it’s headed towards disorder. Time will tell if Sanders has learned that the stove is hot and can keep himself from touching it.
