SI 53 man Roster

In general, probably pretty close with 2 or 3 exceptions.

I might be different by about 3 players. He has only 4 rbs including Cabinda. I think there’s 5. He then has 12 DBs. I think there’s 11.

His choice of Jarvis over the UDFA OT that we brought in is the next most obvious disagreement I have. Like I said, though, he’s bad close to where I guess they’ll end up, too.

S.I. thinks Logan Stenberg won’t make the team. Saddens me, thought he was a great selection.

Eh, they got Boyle over Blough because of the financial commitment. $2 mill vs $1.1, I think that hardly makes a difference. I do hope they go with just 2 QB’s though. Stenberg has been given every chance to succeed, I think he’s going to have to blow up camp to make the 53 man.

I don’t know about being given every chance to succeed. He was drafted by Bob Quinn and struggled early as a rookie in training camp under Patricia’s leadership and then missed almost his entire 2nd season due to knee surgery. He’s now entering year 3, last year was unfortunately a wasted year for him. I’m not saying he’s going to be good, but the serious injury last year really hurt his development. Same goes for Okudah.

When Jonah was out during OTA’s, Stenberg was with the starters at left guard, which I found interesting.

Hopefully he can get healthy and have a good camp. Depth is critical, so many injuries in the NFL as we learned last year with Decker and Ragnow.

I also don’t see Igwebuike being kept with both Jefferson and Netflix gwtting cut.

This, and I think JJ makes the final cut.

At this early point, I can’t see Garrett being kept in preference to Brock Wright or even Shane Z. Jarvis, Kramer, Stenberg–I’d guess Kramer, but who know? A bloodbath like at linebacker. Glad they included Shaun Dion Hamilton at LB. I like Demetrius Taylor and Cominsky, but Taylor should survive to the PS.

I’m guessing…

First “error” I saw in his breakdown too. I agree w/you.

Yup!

If he can’t be first man up at this point he needs to be first out. Sure, he’s been injured and anyone who had Patricia as a coach could have actually taken a step back instead of forward. But, he’ll get every chance this year, All the “plays with a mean streak” needs to come out. After the cut down if he’s still here, he earned it.

100% agree, 3rd year it’s do or die for your career. Several guys fit into the category…Stenberg, Okudah, Julian Okwara, and Cephus. All entering year 3, all have had injury issues in their first 2 years. Hopefully they can stay healthy and make poor old Bob Quinn look a bit better since he drafted them all.

B. Holmes and MC/DC didn’t draft these guys, so they gotta produce or I’m sure we will move on.

yup
I’m being on Cephus making it as most likely to succeed…get a very reasonable contract.
After that, I’ve got Okudah. I think El Jeffé has the highest ceiling, if his health can hold up.

I hope they all work out!! But, history teaches us otherwise, maybe 1 or 2 will.

I’m with you- I don’t think there’s an ice cube’s chance in Hades that all of 'em work out. They’ll up grade with younger, cheaper talent…that is MORE talent next offseason.

Brad will let the draft & FA come to him.

He saw plenty of action as a returner and I think that gives him the edge.

But I agree with @LineBusy they will likely keep 5 RB’s.

Yeah… It could be the deciding factor… but Mike Hughes and Raymond can return kicks as well.

Jefferson will need to do more on special teams to make the team… even if he isn’t the KR.

Another factor is Igwebuike is not a punt returner, he only returns kickoffs, which are touchbacks the majority of the time. Punt returners are much more important in modern nfl than kick returners due to the extremely high touchback percentage. Punts are also way more difficult to catch.

He ran the ball 18x last season, basically once a game.24.9 ave on returns, not seeing the urgency to bringing him back.

He did surprisingly well at RB in limited snaps, but then he started fumbling, which is a huge concern. I mean the dude was playing safety in the XFL, and we switched him to running back. Great story, but I’d be surprised if he makes the 53 man roster.

So with the presumption that Okwara and Jamo start on the PUP… which I prefer 100%… here is what I got….

QB- Goff, Blough- I think he will outplay Boyle and this team isn’t afraid to cut their losses…

RB- Swift, J Will, Netflix, Igwi, Cabinda

  • I don’t really see anyone beside Raymond I’d trust as a return man… thus Igwi has some additional value. If fumbled persist in TC and preseason, then his spot goes to Jefferson…

WR- Hock, J Mitchell, B Wright- I think Wright bears out Griffin, as he’s younger, bigger, more accomplished as a receiver, and was considered a solid blocker at Norte Dame…. He had more tds and catches in 4 games last year than Griffin has in 4 years.

OL- Decker, Jackson, Ragnow, Big V, Sewell, Nelson, E Brown, Jarvis, Ezze… I think the OL is the engine and they keep 9 to ensure injuries don’t derail the strength of the team!

WR- Chark, Jamo, ASB, Reynolds, Cephus, Raymond, Benson…. I bet they keep Benson and Cephus both and once Jamo returns they waive Besnon…

EDGE- Hutch, Harris, Romeo, Paschal, JO, Houston
… 6

DT- Levi, McNeill, Brockers, Cornell- 4

LB- Barnes, Anzalone, Rodriguez, Board, J Davis-5

CB- Okudah, AO, Jacobs, Parker, Harris, Hughes-6

Safety- Joseph, Walker, Iffy, Elliott, CJ Moore, - 5

26 on D
26 on O

Daly, Patterson, Fox
3 specialists.

55 with Jamo and Romeo on PUP

Likely waiving either Jarvis or Ezze along with likely Benson to make room for those guys when they return.

Keeping this combo of players gives max versatility.

Houston and J Davis could moonlight as the LB5 or rush edge…I know Davis struggled but if he’s the 3rd backup emergency LB it isn’t bad since he started here for years with lesser coaching.

Keeping 5 safeties and 6 cbs works with Iffy and Harris being able to line up at either of injuries happen.

Even having Paschal and Cornell at DT/Edge spots gives us insurance at both spots against injuries and allows for us to go bigger- Levi, McNeill, Paschal,
hutch against the run… or quicker- Hutch, Harris, Paschal, Levi on obvious pas downs.

Crazy part is only AO, J Will, and Chark are on one year deals!!!

Our weakest spots on paper for 2023 appear to be LB, DT, CB, RB and OG

Let’s assume we resign Chark and AO…

We’d likely have the cap space for one really solid UFA next year if we move on from Brockers and Big V….

Looking at UFA early for next year- it appears LB is the deepest spot!!!

  1. DT
  2. OG
  3. RB
  4. CB

Yup. This, along with the schedule is why we will start our around 4-4, or so…then SLAUGHTER the back half of our schedule as we get more continuity, health, rookie experience, etc.
