Skubal top target for Dodgers and Orioles?

Was interesting last offseason… he kinda failed his clients. Snell, Chapman and Bellinger all settled for short term contracts. Boras couldn’t get them the big money many expected.

They absolutely should not but I find teams on the precipice to oddly act bizarrely. The Padres are an example of a team that would have been so much better off just staying the course.

Im.not sure harris is any better.

True…do they go all in? Or try to be really good for a long time…if they keep the majority of their young team together that’s a top 5 team for at least 4 or 5 years. If they start selling the farm…maybe not. They do need more pitching for the playoffs though.

I don’t think they want to give up Bradfield out of that list. I mean they don’t want to gove up Holliday, but he is a must have in the deal, as is McDermott. Then it’s sifting Cowser, Mayo, Hjerstad, Beavers etc

Yeah I mostly just picked names but I agree that you have to get Holliday as the centerpiece and McDermott in there bc he’s the only guy in their minors that could in theory end up as an ace.

The Padres-Nats deal has a decent chance of looking like a historically dumb move and I think Baltimore is likely aware of that and wanting to avoid that fate.

Personally I am not big on paying Pitchers top of the market deals so I’d be looking for opportunities. Tough decision for what is a tough job.

I like Beavers!

Great minds…

I wonder if Harris factors jersey sales into it. If so, he’ll push for Beavers

If we do trade Skubal, I hope we immediately sign Flaherty to a long term deal. That would definitely help to soften the blow.

Jobe, Flaherty, and Olson is still a pretty damn good top 3 in a rotation.

We need some Skubal to the Yankees rumors.

Baltimore would shit their pants.

Holliday
Beavers
McDermott
Low A arm
Bobby Miller

For Skubal and Flaherty.

Add some lottery tickets for Kelly Canha mckinstry

Offseason

Resign Flaherty, dump Baez. Promote Jung and Dingler. Tork and Carp all year. Malloy and Parker audition year. See what Mize is a full season removed from TJ. Jobe up.

Gives you the 7 Ms for the four and five slot (Miller Mize, McDermott Manning Maeda, Montero Madden), and lots of trade chips, maybe add another pen arm.

26 Hamm, McG, Clark, Briceno show up. Still havent spent a lot of money.

I like the plan…

On the other hand as a fan I really hate the " give a GM 5 years to turn it around plan" especially since we’re on our third f****** iteration of it right now.

So in that respect I don’t give a s*** if we get to the wild card and lose I just want to see postseason baseball because the last we saw of it was wholy unsatisfying and still has us scratching our heads as to why Benoit would throw a change up to an opposite handed batter, especially David Ortiz in a high pressure situation in his home park for Fox sake

How about a Stafford-type deal. What made that work was that we got Stafford’ replacement (Goff) right away, along with the NFL’s version of top prospects (draft picks). Which Oriole arm comes close (now) to matching what we would lose by trading Skubal? I’d imagine there are none that they would give up. So, nope!

They are in win now mode, so MLB talent is probably out. Maybe that guy is Kyle Bradish or Grayson Rodriguez, but they are their 2 and 3 right now.

So, McDermott is probably your answer, though he is a righty and more of a pure velocity play than velocity plus filthy like Skub.

Holliday Beavers (who I like better than Mayo and is on our timeline a little more closely) McDermott and a low A arm or bat that has projection.

Plus Miller for Flaherty.

Assorted lotto tix for Kelly, Urshula, Canha. Reload, not rebuild.

All I can remember are the prospects that never worked out for Verlander, Scherzer, Martinez, Castellanos, etc. etc. Truthfully, I have not followed the Tigers since Avila dismantled the team, and Miggy’s contract kept us from doing anything meaningful.

So I ask as a non-knowing recent tag-along: Have we ever dealt a really good player for prospects who turned out to be worth it?
