The Lions have way too much money left to be ādone.ā However I do think this a sign that extending Kerby and Hutch soon, and getting some of the money front loaded is the plan. Especially Kerby-
There are still about 10 free agents out there that I loveā¦ and most will likely cost a lot less than I would have estimated for them a few days agoā¦?
Tim Patrick is a need, a value and clearly wants to come back. He will be back. In addition- letās get 3 of the below players.
OG:
- Scherff
- Risner
- L Patrick
Edge:
- Z Smith
- C Campbell
- Demarcus Walker
Safety:
- Jordan Fuller
- Julian Blackmon
- Justin Simmons
T Patrick, Lucas Patrick, C Campbell, and Julian Blackmon would make our depth chart pretty sexy imoā¦
DeckerSkipper
Mahogany/Patrick
Ragnow/Niese
Glasgow/Sorsdal
Sewell/Manu
- thatās a pretty solid 10 man OL with versatility and depthā¦
Hutchinson/Davenport
Levi/Alim/Wingo
Reader/Lopez
Campbell/Paschal
- we need long term help at DT and upside at DE, but itās definitely not awful
Reed/Robertson
Arnold/Rake
Robertson/Rake
Branch/Blackmon
K Joseph
- this group looks great and Blackmon at 200 plus pounds could be the heavy nickel role at times.
T Patrick- 1 yr up to 3M
L Patrick- 2 yrs 5M
J Blackmon- 2 years 8.5M
C Campbell- 1 year 8M
I would take these 4 guys for 17M and front load 15M of Kerbys extension over giving a package of picks and 32M plus per year to Treyā¦.
Draft- just did this one
Harmon
Tre Harris
D Walker
A Powell-Ryland
RJ Harvey
C Ransaw
J Priebe
Reader/Harmon/Alim/Levi/Lopez/Wingo
- that could be the best DT room in the NFL?
Hutch/C Campbell/Davenport/D Walker/ APR/Paschal
- I think we could see a gem in either Walker or APR like the Rams got with B Young a few years ago.
I donāt think any of this is unrealistic at all, except maybe Harmon lasting, and then Iād consider Nolan or Grantā¦
I donāt see Dā Zarius Smith coming back here.
Whyās that?
Nah! Now that Trey is off the table, weāre going to resign Z.
That was probably the plan all along, from what Iāve been hearing. Z hasnāt gone on any visits.
hope so, been real quiet on that front.
How I see the roster:
QB - Goff, Hooker (2/2)
RB - Montgomery, Gibbs, Reynolds, Vaki (4/4)
WR - St Brown, Williams, Patrick, Raymond, ??? (4/5)
TE - LaPorta, Wright, ??? (2/3)
OL - Decker, Glasgow, Ragnow, ???, Sewell, Sorsdal, Manu, Mahogany (7/8)
DT - (McNeill), Reader, Onwuzurike, Lopez, Wingo, Martin (5/5)
DE - Hutchinson, ???, ???, Davenport, Paschal, ??? (3/6)
LB - Anzalone, Campbell, Barnes, (Rodriguez), Nowaske, Pittman, Stuard (6/6)
CB - Reed, Arnold, Robertson, Rakestraw, ???, ??? (4/6)
S - Joseph, Branch, ???, ???, Strickland (3/5)
ST - Fox, Hatten, Bates (3/3)
43/53
Bubble - Skipper, Green
- Players in (brackets) are assumed to be on IR at the beginning of the season and arenāt counted among the final 43/53
- Pittman and Stuard are in for ST. Nowaske is in for his versatility and development potential ahead of Turner
- Iām assuming Martin and Sorsdal are given the opportunity in year 3 but they could easily be cut
- Obviously the numbers per position are variable, but this is generally how weāve rolled under Brad and Dan
Biggest needs are DE and depth in the secondary for me. We have 7 draft picks, so Iād expect at least five of the ???s to be filled there, which means we still have a few veterans to add in the coming months.
Theyāre still in the market for DL help. I wouldnāt be surprised if they signed a couple players yet.
Z. Smith is interesting to me. Here is where he ranked last year. Why wouldnāt we want that guy back?
Pressures - 67 (8th)
Pressure % - 16% (8th)
Pressure % on Third downs - 20.5% (4th)
Sacks - 9 (11th)
Need to get him on a contract that reflects those stats. Thatās the key.
Hope you are right. Iād love for Smith to come back. Iād feel really good about this roster heading into the draft. They can add more depth and ready to withstand injuries a little better.
Maybe I missed it somewhere, but why has no other team signed Smith. Is he asking for too much?
agreed brother. Thatās where I am at as well.
Depends on who wants to know. Iām sure he doesnāt think heās asking too much, but clearly we do. And clearly we think heās worth way less than the $11M it would have cost to keep him.
The reality is Z was most likely released (smoke here) bc he wanted his current deal honored and the Lions did not want to. Historically Z has always maximized his earning potential and does not do anyone favors (donāt blame him). Brad probably given the precedent he created released Z wishing luck finding the number he wants and if he doesnāt find it then the offer Brad has on the table for him is still here.
Thatās the way itās looked like it played out from the outside for sure. Just have to hope heās not too irritated by us cutting him to come back. He holds a grudge too, I remember.
yupā¦that;s my concern as well.
He doesnāt think so. His production screams heās worth north of 15 mil.
Problem is heās an aging vet who plays best on a limited snap count.
Heās a one year rental contract type and heās looking to maximize his contract. I expect him to go to the highest bidder. Question is will Brad match that offer. I think he will get the chance to. Iām not convinced he will.
Iād say thereās less than a 50% chance heās back.
If the Lions fail to land another quality pass rusher. (Donāt rule out a trade) I expect them to be aggressive on draft day to get one they like.
Word is, we have an agreement in place. He hasnāt made any visits?
Where did you hear we have a deal in place?
