I saw the play in the Lions game, I didn’t see the one in the Eagles-49ers. I was asking about yesterday’s game.
Abou the rule, it simply comes down to: can’t re-establish if no penalty is called on the defense for causing the out of bounds. At least the way I’m understanding it.
Small edit to your logic. You can’t re-establish and go catch a normal pass. That covers 90%+ of plays.
You CAN re-establish and still participate in a play where someone else touched the ball first (not the QB throwing it).
Was thinking/talking about being able to catch a normal pass aspect.
