Terrion Arnold & Penalties

Before you jump to “he’s a rookie!” Yes, I acknowledge that, and understand that dumb penalties sort of come with the territory.

But those holding calls were not borderline calls; they were pretty blatant.

I’m encouraged by what I’ve seen otherwise, but I certainly hope they use the bye to try and clean some of that up. I get that he’ll probably continue to get an occasional PI just by the very nature of the type of player he is, but the holding has got to stop. Or, at least made to be a little less agregious.

Thoughts on him so far and going forward?

At least one of them was bologna.

But, I think Troy put it well. “Put mittens on the guy in practice because his first instinct is to grab the receiver when he feels like he’s getting in trouble.”

It’s so hard to judge these days, because every incomplete pass has a 50/50 chance of being PI, even when defenders aren’t in the area

Overall, he needs to cool it, but I’m encouraged.

Slay was AIDS as a rookie. I think Arnold is clearly ahead of him so far

He’ll learn the grabbing. I’m more encouraged that he doesn’t seem out position, rarely, and isn’t getting cooked by NFL WR routes. He’s already 90% of the way there. Just gotta clean up the hands. It’s hard to come into the NFL and be good as a CB immediately. Guys like Sauce are the exception, not the rule.

I thought the last one was hardly anything but because Barner fell it forced the issue. The other two were blatant.

Something to listen too i think for arnold

Rookie corners are going to have ups and downs… Hopefully he improves as the season progresses.

It’s weird because he panics and grabs when he doesn’t have to

Yeah this is pretty much my thought on the matter as well I think he actually looks pretty good out there still seems confident he’ll hopefully get it figured out because he could be pretty good if he can clean that up

Yeah, he’s plenty sticky enough to be a top corner in the NFL. The penalties will be fewer and fewer, I think. It’s kind of an art form and he’s just getting his feet wet after four games. I think he’ll be a very good one.

Remember, Slay wasn’t a very good corner until his third year. I think Arnold will be a very good one sooner than that.

Yeah, I’m just gonna say it: He’s gonna be an Pro-Bowl level CB.

Arnold should listen to Sauce.

Rookies just have to learn the finer points of technique and some positions are tougher than others. CB is one of those positions.

Last year Ekeler was abel to notice Gibbs tipping some of his runs before the play and discussed it briefly in a video. They just need time to learn

I am still very encouraged but what I see so far. I think he’s further along at this point than Slay was. Sadly, slay is really the only good cb I remember us drafting and developing

I didn’t notice how much Rakestraw played tonight but I’m pretty excited to see what he can do as well. It would be great to have two promising young corners along with Branch and Joseph

He played for Saban. They get away with a lot more “stickiness” in college than they do the NFL. Plus he’s a rookie which means targeting.

He just has to learn this and adjust. They hurt in the moment but I’m not worried.

We’re good enough where we can leave him out there to learn without being too hard on the team.

Amik and Rake.

Branch is a S because they got corners finally.

Oh and also because he is elite.

I actually don’t have a problem with arnold right now. Kid is right there every time, and I would say that probably half of his PI calls have been pretty ticky tack, compared to the OPI that isn’t called with push offs.

I think they are calling things on him they let other CBs get away with. But it’s food to see he’s always there and not toast

He’s a sticky cover corner and when he learns the nuances he’s going to be shutdown

Well said.

Overall, a big upgrade to that spot, relative to the last couple years
