🏈 The Den Draft Day Thread: Day 2 🏈

I don’t care what we do with the rest of the picks now. This was a successful draft.

Derrick Moore, ER/DL, Michigan Derrick is the picture of the perfect Defensive End for a team that runs a 4/3 front. He has excellent power off the line of scrimmage and has those long arms that can make it easy to shed blocks or use when pass rushing to keep those big offensive tackles away from his body. Derrick is very consistent at setting the edge against sweeps. When rushing the passer, he struggles to be consistent. This year, Derrick had double-digit sacks, ten to be exact. He also had ten tackles for losses. But in 2024, 4 sacks, 6 tackles for losses, and in 2023, 5 sacks, 6 tackles for losses. That being said, let’s put that aside and go to the film from all of those years. The difference I saw was that this year, he did much better getting off blocks because of his effort and not settling for being blocked. His pass rush this year had much more power and commitment behind it. But what I still see from the Senior Bowl practices is a lack of consistency in his pad level and hand usage, and that he relies too much on power moves. At his size, those power moves will not be enough unless he learns the nuances of his position to rush the passer or gains more weight and strength, and I’m not sure his body has that much growth in it without it affecting his quickness. Derrick is also not as flexible as you would like to see, turning the corner, hence the overuse of power moves instead of finessing and using speed to turn the corner. Basically, for his style of play, he is a little bit of a “tweener.” That said, once Derrick becomes consistent with his pad level and improves his hand usage, I have no doubt he can become an impact player. Better coaching could teach Derrick and expand his pass-rushing repertoire, helping him get into the backfield faster and finish. The combine and interviews will be big for Derrick to follow up on his Senior Bowl practices. Derrick is another of this very talented group of Edge Rushers, who could be selected earlier than I have him rated, given the position he plays and his potential.

Two HIGH FLOOR players. We needed to nail those two slots and I think we did.

Not without throwing in a 2027 pick.

Now if we package that other 4 and move up for an outside CB then get a TE on day 3 my draft will be complete.

EMW really is dropping huh

Oh PIT just traded up with Indy

What?

You can’t sack the QB in less than an 8 Mississippi count!

Moore won’t be a three down starter. And instead, we’ll get a lot of second and third down snaps.

I’m OK with whatever we do with this year’s picks, but under no circumstances should we touch any 2027 picks.

extra 5th and extra 6th can get another 4th… still hoping they trade into the 3rd.

Wait, isn’t this what Brad does? He goes goes all in on someone in the 3rd round which will result in losing next years 3rd rounder.

He definitely needs to improve and learn a reliable counter.

I’m good with it. But we are clearly drafting for needs. Both guys can help us this year. Perhaps Brad has changed his strategy a bit on drafting for the future.

I forgot, no 3rd. Used one of the 4ths for the trade.

Got the two “need” guys—really good ones! The Lions know they are close.

Now, the DEEP scouting comes in
