So, Jalen Carter has all world potential. But … it seems like he’s a bit of a moron with decision making (immaturity), and there’s questions about work ethic (maybe also immaturity). Obviously, the Eagles think some of those things are fixable.
But do you know what teams don’t think can be fixed? Being an asshole—particularly at the most important position on the field. Jay Cutler, Jeff George, and Ryan Leaf taught us these lessons about quarterbacks.
There were reports that Levis came off as “entitled” during his pre-draft interviews and that overall it allegedly went very poorly for him. If that’s true, then you have to wonder how far he continues to fall.
No doubt someone will take a gamble, likely in the second, but hopefully this is a lesson for both Levis and any one else that comes after him: being a star QB at a basketball school means precisely dick to the NFL.
Man, that smoke about Levis dropping because of terrible interviewing was most certainly fire. Imagine having all the talent in the world and blowing it because of the type of person you are.
People can definitely mature. I’m sure none of us were the same person we were when we were 22. But it takes time, and that’s not something you get a lot of while trying to prove yourself in the NFL.
Brett Favre wasn’t much of a leader off the field. Neither is Aaron Rodgers. They are both kinda weird assholes. But, on the field (practice and game), they are/were completely devoted to winning and being great. So, people follow anyways, even though most wouldn’t really like them
That’s fair. And maybe that’s why Rodgers and Favre both dropped the way they did in their respective drafts. Although neither were beat out by Sean Clifford.
It’s crazy to see the foundation the eagles have in place to coddle Carter. Jordan Davis, Nakobe Dean, and they added Nolan Smith. Talk about making your kid feel at home and having friends in place to help keep him on track.
Seems like a similar situation as to when the Cardinals drafted Tyrann Mathieu. Patrick Peterson was there to teach him how to become a professional. Peterson was probably the only guy in the league that Tyrann respected enough to get straight.
Aaron Rodgers apparently fell because he was a douche. Just know these things can backfire on the teams that pass. Ultimately the only really important thing is you can play football at a high level and not cause any locker room problems that can’t be overcome.
Maybe. I was reading yesterday that Levis was getting mixed reviews because of his tape—that some teams’ scouting departments just were not impressed. Apparently that included most of the teams looking for QBs!
