The Lions are 9-15-1 since Quinn said 9-7 wasn't good enough

It’s funny to me that people are using injuries as an excuse when Caldwell was deemed a failure for not winning a division with Stafford with a broken finger on his throwing hand and dudes off the street starting at cornerback and defensive end. Remember the Crezdon Butler experience at corner, what about Johnathan Bademosi?

How about bringing back Devin Taylor of the street to start?

Same thing for Schwartz. I’m sure we all remember the Kris Durham experience.

It’s crazy to me those guys were held accountable for the weaknesses of the rosters they were given yet a couple of players over the age of 30 getting hurt is an excuse for having the 2nd worst defense in a decade.

Caldwell was good at beating the teams he was supposed to beat. That’s about it. We were never going to beat good teams or win any significant games while he was here. He was here long enough for that to become clear. He put a super high priority on beating the Packers. I did appreciate beating them a few times, including snapping the Lambeau streak. I’m not sure he beat a single other team with a winning record.

I loved having him and he did alot to push things forward in Detroit, like Schwartz did. But his time to move on had come.

The goal here is to win Superbowls!

What coach outside of Belichick consistently takes teams with worse rosters and beats better ones?

That was always a weird criticism of Caldwell to me.

These administrations of the Detroit Lions continue to have the same problems because they continue to make the same mistakes. These guys really shoot themselves in the foot on draft day with head-scratching picks…thus they don’t have depth or continuity

Consistently? Or ever? There is a difference. Correct me if I’m wrong. Go back and look at the teams Caldwell beat vs the ones he lost to. He beat the Packers. That was it. He never snuck up and knocked off another good football team, nor was he ever. Teams do it all of the time. With Caldwell, it was a sure bet the other team was going to win.

2014 is a perfect example of what you are saying wesley

Caldwell beat the 13-3 Minnesota Vikings.

Mr, Wrath, that’s true but I do believe we were talking about on a consistent basis? Or are you responding to wesley saying the only winning team we beat was Green Bay?

I was responding to Wes stating he only beat Green Bay.

The only time the 2017 Minnesota Vikings lost at home all year including the postseason was to Jim Caldwell and the Detroit Lions

Maybe they should rehire Schwartz.

Worked for Billy Martin…

Thing is, Schwartz has had the job before. He’s not a rookie, and he’s had 6 years to contemplate his mistakes.
Schwartz had a pretty good staff. Unfortunately, he had 3 stars and little else.

Given the cap constraints Schwartz had no coach would have got them to contending

I would be okay with Jimmy Shorts coming back. I am sure he learned a ton from his 1st time around and had the opportunity to see other head coaches after he was terminated

Plus, his family still lives here, last I heard. Which was two years ago.

So there you go, its 2 teams he beat in his entire tenure here.

Only the elite teams can beat good football teams on a consistent basis. I’m just talking about beating good football teams…period. Under Caldwell we were never going to go to Seattle and beat the Seahawks, or come home and beat the Broncos. It was just a lost cause with him.

So how do you feel now? We can’t even beat teams, we believe, that we should. Caldwell won more than he lost here. Now, we’re back to losing more than we’ve won. And that sucks worse.

Get rid of Patricia, that’s about all you can do. But Patricia’s failures don’t suddenly make the Caldwell era any different than it was. It was time to move on.

I believe Quinn had every intention of firing Caldwell once Quinn was hired. To me, it stifled any potential progress that the roster and Caldwell could have made in his scheme. You did make good points.

Schwartz’s teams were much more competitive than what we’ve seen under Patricia and even Caldwell. Sure, they were frustrating as hell, but they were also fun to watch.
