Was our team good enough to win a Super Bowl last year?
No?
So are we going to do anything to make our team good enough to win a Super Bowl this year?
We’re not!?
Well that makes complete sense to me!

hate to say it-but I thought we might not be, just depends on if this is media bunk or we will be taking free agents.
We have spent in free agency some. DJ Reed and Reader for example the last 2 years. We really need Reed to get healthy and play well for us next year.
Respectfully
You constantly point out the way our defense schematically was different from the Super Bowl champs.
However they didn’t spend big in FA. Why the complaining about this?
March 9th is going to be Krampous. While yes I know teams in north are tight will be making moves. BH is going down the wrong rabbit hole. Safeties gross, dline was awful last year, cbs burnt like toast. Oline yuck, now no number 2 rb. LaPorta is a big question mark. Oh no 3rd pick as well.
Damn right we do. It’s ugly in the secondary right now.
Right we have talked all offseason about fixing the oline. But the secondary might be the biggest question mark on the current roster.
Im not sure their going to fix it. Juice will start at rg
Well, this can only mean one thing.
So it might be true what the agents are saying. But if we’re to believe the other rumors we’ve heard in recent days, the Lions were making a push to trade for Crosby.
In that case, it would have been one team and one agent in the loop. So I choose to believe they are still going to make a deal for Maxx and yeah, be a minor player in actual free agency. ![]()
Like the Packers under Ted Thompson, I doubt we’re ever big players in FA. There are just front offices out there who look at all the moves, see that the vast majority don’t work out, and decide to stay out of it philosophically. SOME work - which is why fans always want to go that route - but statistically they are actually few and far between. It’s been a few years, but I read a study once that said they hit at something like a 10% clip. One out of every ten. And most of the hits come from the middle of the market, which is where Brad usually spends anyway.

Their quarterback was literally one of the biggest free agent signings of last offseason.
They also signed a key contributor to their Super Bowl winning defensive front during free agency last offseason.
And the runner-up’s defense was anchored by a splash free agent defensive lineman from last offseason.

Yeah Seattle ranked 4th in free agent spending last offseason and New England ranked 1st.
Not sure how they “didn’t spend big in FA.”
There is also a lot of space between being a “major player “ and not a player at all. They will sign FA’s
If signing Demarcus Lawrence qualifies as big free agent spending then Brad spends big every single year.
They traded a.quarterback who made roughly the same amount. If you want to use that as free agent spending then so be it
Sure, just like we did Reed, Sutton, etc…
But I doubt we’ll ever really be shoppers at the top of the market.

As usual, just as I’m about to post something I see that Dan has already posted it…
We may not be a player for the most expensive top names in FA, but we will likely sign starting-caliber players at positions of need (DB, OL) like we usually do.
Also, feel the need to point out that the original account tweeting this BS doesn’t provide any details and no link to the actual story they’re claiming had this information, so there’s no way to even read what was actually said to judge for yourself.
I use money spent as free agent spending, since that’s what “spending” is.
I believe Brad will take the more “opportunistic” approach. He’s gonna let the high priced guys get the headlines. While, he’ll continue to negotiate with lesser known players. What I hope will make things different this year is: Instead of getting “bottom of the barrel” Edges, he’ll get more mid-level FAs. And don’t rule out AQM coming back on a solid deal that won’t break the bank. I just hope not to see Davenport, Lacy or Paschal back. I’d take Pat O’Connor, Hassanein or Wheat as deep depth (3rd or 4th stringers).
That is a tall order right there, my friend. Given the team’s recent history.
I don’t put much stock in this. We have signed good players a few times in last few years.
What does Brad gain by coming out and saying “we are gonna be really aggressive in FA”?
Nothing other than making us fan boys and girls happy
