The loss to Washington still stings

yep. we had it all lined up, got the right teams in the playoffs and were absolutely dominating the 9ers.

the washington game I had a good feeling we wouldn’t win that, our defense was just stupidly crippled. worse than I’ve ever seen a team with injuries on one side of the ball.

Sill stings? Nope. We had what i think are the most horrific ijuries EVER SUFFERED by a defense during a season. Can someone name any other team that had the level of injuries our D had last year?

NO WAY Washington score more than 21 had our D just had league average injuries for that game. When Robinson got hurt early in that game that was the last straw. I thought of the Frasier episode where Niles freaked out in the Cafe and took hs clothes off. He asked for a straw and they told him someone had just got the last straw. Niles repeated it several times, “The last straw” Then he went nuts. When we lost Amik early in that game I had the saame feeling as Niles, “That was the last straw” The footbal goids simply were not going to allow us to overcome ll the injuries, there was just no way.

So, NOPE, I know we win that game withj just average injuries on defense. Plus, Ben also cost us quite a bit with bad offensive calls, I actually feel releived he is not our OC any longer. Same on Defense.

When Amik broke his arm 3 snaps in, I kinda accepted our fate.

His injury kind of guaranteed no Super Bowl

Injuries were by far the biggest factor.

Also, Goff can’t have multiple turnovers in the playoffs.

I think both of the aforementioned improve this year

Neither sting. Past is prologue. We are more likely to hang a banner bc of our setbacks.

I would have to go back and check but a lot of the “trick plays” Ben called were in games that the Lions were already kicking butt. Or, to say it another way, they weren’t needed to win.

On the other hand those trick plays hurt the Lions in their losses.

The offense of the Lions is so stacked they should play straight up, run a lot, run and throw out of the same sets over and over and keep playing 4 downs. No crazy plays fake fumble, triple end around, flea flicker, etc are needed. You want to give to Jamo, just throw a bubble screen with St Brown and TeSlaa blocking near him. Otherwise hand off to Gibbs and watch him run for 30 yards.

Last year it felt like the trick plays were used to rub it in.

Only time I feel a trick play was needed due to the base offense not working was the hook and ladder with Saint and Gibbs in Arizona. The rest of them were just icing on the cake

Never let the HC of another team call plays for your team in the playoffs.
Dan is a great guy, but, he might be too trusting.
Ben had another job and might have had to be here another month , had we kept winning. That’s a lot of valuable time he would need to put together his staff, before all of the other new HC’s picked over the prospects.
I wouldn’t allow other teams to talk to my staff while my team was still in it.

31 points
521 yards
5 turnovers

It was the turnovers, not the play calling.

Yea I think the point many are making is the plays being run were confusing. Sure, yardage stats were impressive numbers.

Question is why didn’t we run the ball more and more and more, it was working. We went away from it too early imo.

I thought they were pretty balanced until the fourth quarter.

Goff gets a lot of love here, deservedly so.

He has a bad game and it’s the play callers fault for not taking the ball out of his hands.

LOL.
You can think both, it is actually possible.
Goff sucked that game, yep.
Play calling was suspect in that game, yep. Saying play calling was suspect is not 20/20 reaction to the interceptions, at least on my part anyways. Goff didn’t perform on several of the plays, he has owned it rightly so.

That game confirmed to me that this team isn’t going to win anything with Goff at QB.

So they weren’t 15-2 last season?

If Ben Johnson didn’t go to Chicago, I doubt this would be the narrative here.

That narrative didn’t start after he left Detroit.

“It’s wild to think how much Ben Johnson cost us in that game. Mr. Chicago’s ego may have single-handedly lost us the game.”

“As for Johnson, his stupidity/stubbornness/ego absolutely cost us that game.”

Yep, there are some, didn’t deny that, just not painting with the all encompassing brush. You can have issues both Goff and Ben as I said in another post.

Was I think the 2nd defensive snap of the game when Amik Robertson left.

So yes, basically missed the entire game!!!
