I have to admit, I’m not much into the Souls-like games. I love the world-building and art design of both Dark Souls and Elden Ring, but I find the combat to be frustrating because I’m really more of a narrative guy who likes adding some strategy into my games vs. pure skill like the Souls-games require.
I’m not sure exactly what types of games you enjoy playing, but if you like RPGs and haven’t played Baldur’s Gate 3 or Expedition 33 yet, I’d recommend both as those are both relatively new and instantly both broke my Top 5 games of all time (coming from a guy who has probably played through 200+ RPGs in various genres).
Just published and it’s a thesis on why the revolution was justified from a Christian perspective…. About to feast on it and see if I agree or not with his position
Expedition 33 is an awesome game, can’t recommend it enough. Excellent story, fun game play, tough but fair combat system and you have a lot of different strategies you can use. Or get used against you…
I’ve been play a lot of Palworld, it’s a great game. Tons to do, and a massive map. Not usually my style of game, but I’ve enjoyed it a lot. I got it for 20 bucks, and probably have 80 hours into it.
He’s totally obsessed with ancient history and the Middle Ages so I was going to get him Ages of Empire 4 but he said he tried it with a friend and got frustrated bc “he couldn’t do much of anything.” I assume that means he just got Intimidated by the learning curve. That is an issue for him.
I also thought about grabbing Final Fantasy Tactics which they re-released on the Switch bc he loves chess and its gameplay will make sense to him. Also, I loved that game twenty plus years ago so I could help him with the learning curve.
Time doesn’t exist. Time itself doesn’t have mass/energy.
Rather, change happens.
Change happens at different rates based on local space conditions (because “rate” is based on movement, which is dependent on distance and gravity, a function of space and mass).
We only have metaphors for constructing our concept of time – spatial metaphors (either “time is a moving object”, or “time is a dimension of space”) and resource metaphors (like “you don’t have much time left” – which actually extends the spatial dimension metaphor).
The thing is …. nobody has ever said time has mass/energy. Why make that statement, unless it’s something you yourself just realized? A clock is a clock. A clock isn’t time. Time has always been a man made construct … a simple artifact of the attempt to put a measurement on our physical existence. I think what you are really trying to say is that our definition of time, of course, doesn’t have application beyond that due to relativity and dilation. This I agree with.
I think mostly because Jane was replying to a similar comment and reinforcing that comment more concretely with practical applications of why it was the case. You know, things you sometimes do in normal conversation with others.
I realized it about 20 years ago, but it’s still blowing my mind! Lunchtime doubly so.
More broadly, I find it a common misconception that certain concepts have an independent existence – so I like to remind myself (and others) that “existence” necessarily means mass/energy. This is all to prevent mistaking The Map for The Territory.
Other concepts that don’t have an independent existence include numbers, categories, reason, causation, and feelings.
This is what happens when you get a degree in philosophy.
