Belgium was just far better. It happens but the game was a legit beat down
Belgium seemed awfully ungrateful that we won two world wars for them and saved their asses.
Belgium is a solid team and nobody expected an easy game against them. But, USA could have used the red card as a rallying cry / bulletin board material. Instead that extra incentive went for Belgium. No, it’s not the only reason but we’ve seen in all sports how a bad decision, a suspension or injury makes the rest of the team work harder and come together.
Now all three host teams are out.
Belgiums best athletes play soccer. US best athletes play football and basketball. Soccer is starting to make a dent in that—surpassing baseball as third most popular. It’s gonna take some time. Europe is finally respecting American kids as soccer players and signing them to play.
I’m quite relieved this morning. We were getting very close to the point in which it would have been my patriotic duty to pretend that a cared about soccer.
