A K is pretty much the worst possible outcome when:
- the bases are clear
- there are two outs
- one or two outs, guy on third, or even second and third.
Sure, a double play can be worse, but a K is usually a bad at bat.
It’s the first time the Tigers have three homegrown position players on the All-Star team in 41 years since catcher Lance Parrish and infielders Alan Trammell and Lou Whitaker in 1985.
Yep, a pretty good trio there.

Here are some fun facts about McGonigle’s All-Star Game accomplishment, put together by Tigers PR guru Peter Chase:
- McGonigle is the third Tiger to make the All-Star team at 21 years old or younger and the first in 50 years, when pitcher Mark Fidrych started the game at 21. Al Kaline is the only Tigers position player to previously do so when he made the club in 1954 and 1955 at the ages of 20 and 21.
- McGonigle is the first Tigers rookie to make the team since Matt Nokes in 1987 and the first to do so in his first season since Fidrych in 1976.

And then there are these amazing accomplishments from this season:
- When McGonigle played his 80th game in the big leagues, he had 85 hits and 51 walks at the time, the fifth player in baseball history to reach those totals through 80 games.
- The one other Tiger who had 85 hits in his first 80 major league games at 21 or younger was Ty Cobb in 1906.
Yes, freakin’ Ty Cobb.
Let me pause here, to let that sink in.
Then, there are these facts:
- McGonigle went 2 for 4 against Texas on Sunday. He has reached base safely two or more times in 52 games this season. Going back to 1933, only one rookie has reached base safely two or more times in that many games before the All-Star break. Some guy named Aaron Judge with 52 in 2017.
So, yeah, he’s having a pretty good season. But he doesn’t know what is ahead. He just goes with the flow.

That is some very impressive company.
I can’t get the archive site to load this am so will revisit later today but basically AJ pointing out the huge addition Outman is for his CF defense. He commented that having Meadows and Baez to play there was key to much of their defense plan overall and Outman can provide similar defense. His bat isn not doing a lot but yet contributing in key moments like beating out the single yesterday.
Health has made a big difference here with Carp back and Torres for a minute as well.
Tigers are 5 out of the wild card race probably their best bet to get into the playoffs. Man just if the BP didn’t suck in may

imagine being a GM and trying to figure out: are you a buyer (5 games out of the WC and trending right) or a seller (~5 games out of the worst record).
We know that whatever decision Harris makes, the Den will be cough cough, commenting on it!

Olsen is done for the year.
Clark has been holding pretty steady batting average wise right between .260 and .270 he does have hits in 16 of his last 18 games.
Briceno has only played 3 games since coming off the IL. He’s hitting .300 with a homer in those 3 games.

Dang I thought Olsen was due back around now.
All I know is I love Monteiro in the bullpen, but if we sell Mize or Skubs (or ugh both)…

It’s a shame that almost every elite BP arm was on the market last season when we didn’t really go get one (other than Finnegan) and now this season there is maybe one good closer (Chapman) that might get moved.

And for the record, I absolutely would not have tried to trade for Mason Miller last season. I said at the time I wouldn’t give up what it would have eventually cost us to get him.
And the Red Sox are actually playing well right now. Hate to admit it but it’s true. They ain’t out of it
