Tigers bring back Jack Flaherty!

If they don’t end up signing a third baseman I would like to see them take a strong effort at signing Randall grichuk who can hit with power play both corners and in a pinch still a little center field and should come at a decent price on a two-year deal. Either that or go crazy and go get polar bear

Good move for the Tigers. Kinda surprised Flaherty couldn’t get a bigger deal. He’s only 29 years old coming off a very good season. Teams must be nervous about his injury history. Nice deal for the Tigers

Grichuk mashes left handed pitching. The problem is most pitchers are right handed.

Carpenter only had 32 plate appearances against right-handed pictures last year now some of that is because he was hurt but he has a pretty strong split as well so it’s a nice matchup that has more teeth than just hoping Perez hits one in the gap

I’m sure what they’d really like to see happen is Torkelson or Malloy just go nuclear and spring training but I’m not sure you can sit on your hand for the rest of the off season and pray that happen

Grichuk vs lefties OPS numbers…

2024 - .914
2023 - .995
2022 - .926

He’s elite as part time starter and pinch hitter. Arizona basically only played him vs lefties last year. Smart move.

First time in a few years that I have had MLB Radio on in the office all day long.

The Rays have acquired right-hander Alex Faedo from the Tigers, per announcements from both clubs. Faedo had been designated for assignment by the Tigers last week when they signed Tommy Kahnle. The Rays are sending minor league catcher Enderson Delgado and cash to Detroit. Infielder Osleivis Basabe has been designated for assignment by the Rays in a corresponding move, which MLBTR covered here.

Getting Faedo, 29, is a buy-low move for the Rays. The Tigers grabbed him with the 18th overall pick in 2017 and Baseball America ranked the righty as the #50 prospect in the entire league going into 2018.

He’s like a juiced up Ibanez, who also omly hits lefties. Can we find someone who can only hit righties?[quote=“stephenboyd57, post:25, topic:41329, full:true”]

Everyone wants those guys. They are expensive.

He platooned with Joctober, who mashes righties. They were a 140ish OPS+ together. Devastating. Basically a .850 OPS player tigether

So happy to see this. The Tigers pitching staff could be lethal this year. Especially if Jobe becomes the guy they’re expecting.
