Harris needs to get actually good relievers. I don’t think we can accurately evaluate anyone until we don’t have the worst bullpen in the long history of bad Tigers bullpens.
At this point I think they’ve just sort of given up. Dingler’s legs are shot. Riley has been hurt. Skubal and Mize are gone. I don’t think anything at this point is AJ’s fault. I’m evaluating this season based on everything that happened up till that blown save in Pittsburgh. That’s when the season ended for me.

May injuries killed the team and season.
Then the pen or lack thereof put the finalnail in the season coffin.
Harris needs to adjust how he handles FA and continue his development and draft model.
In position for a good draft pick and possibly four picks before the third rd starts whuch means significantl dollars available for the draft.
And of course who knows what actually happens this off-season with pending lockout. Knowing Detroit luck probably change entire draft structure and no extra picks…lol
Really hoping Ryan makes an appearance in Detroit before the season is over.

I’m not saying they need to spend $20M+ on a closer this time, but there are certainly cheaper options that are actually good players. Tyler Rogers comes to mind as an example of who I’m talking about. Adrian Morejon is the guy I want this offseason. There’s also got to be a way they can trade for another reliable middle reliever. The bullpen needs improvement everywhere.
Also, I doubt Sommers ever has a season this good again. I’d love to be proven wrong, but Tyler Holton had a great year in '23 and then hasn’t really been as good since.

Yea bullpen volatility is a thing and while the Jensen collapse wasn’t a surprise the vest injury was the killer.

I’m not sure anyone can convince me Vest wasn’t pitching hurt this entire season. Something was clearly off with him all year when he was “healthy.”

Hinch just ended his interview on SiriusXM MLB Network. Highlights
Skubal- love him as person and he made a huge difference when he was here helped us turn this thing around but we all need to move on. It was hard to see him in a Dodgers uniform walking across our field.
Greene- in left field tonight, I’m happy when he’s out in left field I know he’s going to catch the ball he does a lot of the little things like jumps and angles and release quickly that the metrics don’t pick up on and you know take a look at our record for these 11 games when he was out. We need him 150 games a year
Peck- we like his Bat and he’s had a good year at every stop in the minors and we need to see him defensively up here in the majors mostly at shortstop he can play in a lot of places but that’s where we want to see him for these last 25 games. It means we’ll see a lot of Kevin at third base, and Colt will play more first base than he has this year
Was asked about having guys moving around to different positions all year and basically said they’ll have a debate about that in the offseason cuz they’ve done more of that they probably wanted to partially because of injury but they’re wary of just committing one guy to one position because it affects how you do a roster build and that he and Harris talk about this all the time
When asked about Colt says that he has plenty of power and they want him to focus on being just a good hitter not selling out for power or worrying about that part of this game and then he still learning and growing up in the game
When asked about how this all will affect Torkelson, he said that there may be a few DH days when Colt is at first and he’s handled left-handed pitching all year and with the right-handed pitching he has struggle at times but he’s also hidden for power and you can’t just pick and choose when that power comes so you run them out there.
Hench closed with the idea that they’re still going to play hard they’re not out of it yet but it’s been a very unexpected and wild up and down season but they need the guys that they’ve brought up recently including Peck to play well cuz they still feel like if they go on a big heater they got a shot
That was the end of the interview it was a little shorter than normal and I think Hinch was a little shorter than normal if you know what I mean not angry but you can tell he is feeling it from this season now being so far off what they thought they were going to have

No mention by the interviewers of Dngler’s obvious being worn down or of the god-awful bullpen.
I think my main point in thinking about the team this past month and watching the game yesterday beyond the obvious that you have to spend a lot of money on the bullpen and fix it, is that it’s rather clear that they have to make a very competitive offer to bring Skubal back.
Framber looks like a dud and Melton looks great but you can’t expect him to repeat this year. Jobe could end up being a number one or one b but it ain’t going to be next year. You may have good arms on that staff but you don’t have a leader or a stopper.

I’ll jump on that bandwagon with you. I love that guy. He could step right in and be that dominant closer that we all have been wanting.

It’s one thing to have guys rotate positions but this season was more of a “no one has a set position” on this roster beyond Tork, Carp and the catchers. Drives me nuts.
I still think Keith can be a very good player but will never happen if he doesn’t get the day in day out opportunities and sounds like they are pushing him back to first with Tork’s struggles.
Between Skubal, Mize, Flaherty, Torres, Verlander, and hopefully Jansen after we decline his team option, we’ll have over $100M coming “off the books” this winter. I’d be really disappointed to not see some of that payroll investing in seriously improving this bullpen.

Programmed net increases-
Framber +20m, Greene-Tork-Carp arbitration net bumps $11m, Vest 1m Holton 1m Vest 1m. Add 2m for year 1-3 bumps across McG Montero and others. 36m total net
66m difference. Not sure Pizza Pizza Boy will spend all the way up again. Say $40m to spend.
So, fix the bully or re-sign Skub. Probably not both unless they run the credit card back up to it’s limit.
2028- Baez drops but I suspect his $ goes to Greene and Dingler. McG bumps $7m net that Tork drop covers. Last year of Boat Anchor Valdez
