I truly am in disbelief. I never thought all these players could ALL improve over night like this!
BIAZ was 4/4!!!
HE HAS AN ABOVE AVERAGE OPS!
I would never have guessed that he could even get to at least below average (after being worst in MLB history) let alone above average.
All these guys doing just a little better like they are makes a world of difference!
Because now these average guys getting at least on base, means when the big hitters get a big hit its not just a double, or a single HR. Its 2 runs score or a 3 run HR.
Those little things matter. Hence why the Tigers are first in RD.
Last year 4.2 Runs per game.
This year 5.1!!!
That is MASSIVE difference.
Over 5 R/G is considered ELITE!
Just hope it keeps up. We are now at about ~100 AB for everyone so from here on out teams have enough “tape” to counter so lets see how they continue. But this weekend was beautiful to watch.
I just hope the Tigers buy at the deadline. Not because of injuries but just to solidify the AL.
I know the Tigers have hitters injured, but the Yankies have pitchers injured. So it will level out and become a 2 horse race.
I agree on it’s only 100ab’s so small sample size and way too early to tell if some these guys can keep it up. I have my doubts on a couple of them.
Small portion of an article in today’s Freep on Baez:
Before 2025, Báez posted batting averages of .238 (2022), .222 (2023) and .184 (2024). So, what’s changed in 2025? His 29% swing-and-miss rate and 50.3% swing rate are the lowest marks of his 12-year MLB career. In other words, Báez is making more contact than ever while swinging less than ever. Some underlying metrics — including a .243 expected batting average — suggest his production might not be fully sustainable, but the adjustment appears real: He’s putting the ball in play more often with fewer swings.
I just want to let you guys know right now. If you ever end up seeing me in one of those new kick ass Diamondbacks jerseys or shirts or hats, it’s not because I’m not a Tigers fan anymore. It’s because the Diamondbacks stuff looks that ■■■■■■■ amazingly awesome and cool.
If I was a real Diamondbacks fan, I would have spent an unhealthy amount of money on that new merch yesterday.
Some of their merchandise is great. I was at a game there ten years back or so and got my wife a couple of their shirts. She loved them, in spite of being a Yankee fan.
I was complaining at the beginning of the season because virtually the entire lineup had a <100 OPS+ meaning below average. With only 2-3 guys slightly above.
Where you look at the top teams in the playoffs every year they had over half the lineup with a 100+ and at least 1-2 guys with a 150+
He is at a 45 hr 90 walk pace. Previous best were 31 and 67. Now, 35-38 and 80? Sure. But he is hitting .234. .250 would be just fine with those 35-38 90 runs 100 rbi and 80 walks. Very Polar Bear like. He doesnt hit for enough average to be 900 OPS guy.
Yet. Maybe he can but after 1000 MLB PA, rate stats tend to coalesce.
Weasel has addressed my question marks on the team. There will be some regression for these guys, question is how much.
I thought a lot of the young guys would continue to improve but never anticipated Tork and Baez coming out of the gate like they have.
See where we stand come July
