Tigers vs. Nationals Sep. 21-23

I guess we may as well have a thread for next few games…

last night was a fun watch with the rookies playing well and a few bombs by Malgeri, Javy, and Tork.

It’s been a very disappointing season but I have absolutely enjoyed watching the young guys on the team.

Harris caught so much shit early in the season for signing Anderson to that contract.

Turns out that it was one of his better moves. Especially in free agency.

His 2027 Option is $10m cash but $7m tax number.

He isn’t really a starter for us

Valdez Melton Jobe Montero Olson Ryan

More coming and maybe a vet signing.

Not sure he sticks, as $10m cash for long relief is Dodger Yankee baller cash….

With his numbers, 10 mill is a steal.

I’d be inclined to pick up the option and then trade him. I’d bet the giant pimple on my ass that we could get a very good bully arm for him.

10 mill is a lot for a long reliver and 5th starter. But give the guy credit. He did his job.

100 innings of sub 4 era is decent

I think they said he’s had a sub 2 era over the past 2 months.

Nats blowpen might be the only one worse than the Tigers.

If Ryan is the real deal like he was at first with the Dodgers and the sample size this last game

Melton-Jobe-Valdez-Ryan- Olson and Montero for 5th and LR

Might even look at trading Valdez and eating $20 mil this year(and the deferred payments stay with us)

Incoming team will only be on the hook for 2 years 58 Mil and a 5 mil opt out in year 3

Melton-Jobe-Ryan-Olson-Montero and 22 mil saved from Valdez

And I’m not sure I would count Ichiro in that particular record. Ichiro may be the most talented pure hitter we’ve seen in half a century and he’s an incredibly deserving Hall of Famer.

But a 27 year old man who had been playing against essentially AAA or AAAA level players for five or six years before debuting in Major League Baseball is someone who’s had a major advantage over a true rookie. In addition he comes up at age 27 MLB peak is usually for a baseball player age 26 through 27 when physical maturity has been combined with the knowledge they picked up from their first few years in the bigs.

It really isn’t comparable to somebody who is up as a 21 or 22 or 23-year-old facing Big League level pitching without those many years of fine-tuning their approach and their craft

Looking to the future

C: Dingler

1B: Tork

2B: Anderson

SS: McGonigle

3B: Lee

LF: Green

CF: Clark

RF: Hope

Some combination of Keith/Briceno/Valencia/Liranzo/Meadows for backups or DH

I would feel a trade or 2 would be in store for more bullpen help but we have some hitting

SP: Jobe/Melton/Ryan/Olson/Sears/Montero/Flukey/Mayfield

Very interesting future indeed

Rainer hopefully will move McG to 3b full time in 2028. Wolf has looked great, Jacobs…lots of interesting arms.

Cris Rodriguez will start at West MI next year I think…and end it in AA with any kind of year in 27 like 26. Back end of 28 in Detroit is possible. Kid hits nukes.

They have a lot of chips to go make a Miggy trade again in 27 or 28. They need a HoF level hitter, they have the rest.

Oh, and some bullpen arms. Like 5 or 6.

Didn’t want to start a new thread but this is hilarious! The legend of Kawasaki lives on through Murakami. @Davicus :joy:

Jobe with another quality start against the Pirates. 5 innings. 2 runs, 8k 2bb.

Tigers scored 2 runs on a 3rd strike wild pitch. Unusual play.
