Tigers vs Orioles: May 22-24

Could have gotten 2-3 good players for Skubal last year

Let this be a lesson for everyone who fears going ā€œall in.ā€

Not making a move also carries risk, and THIS is the risk that it carries.

Why would we have traded Tarik Skubal last year?

I hate that I and many others here have consistently been right about needing to address specific areas of weakness amongst our favorite pro sports teams. Then, our management has completely ignored all of those glaring weaknesses each time, and in this case it has literally blown up in their face.

This goes for all Det sports these days and all the GM’s…even though Brad drafted an edge, which was good, he had to say at his post draft presser ā€œthere I took an edge, is evrybody happy now?!ā€ I mean srsly dude…get ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  with that childish bullshit

And that makes Holmes look like clown with comments like that.

Scott Harris is the dreamer type attached to his draft picks. I think he’s the right guy now. There is a time when it will be time for him to switch into contender mode and I don’t know if he can do it or not. This was the step the Lions failed miserably. But the Tigers aren’t there yet. He does need to fire Hinch though. Hinch is just dumb.

Considering the Tigers have some talented young guys in the minors and Mcgonigle playing great. It seems like sell, sell, sell is going be the best approach this summer. Get a bunch more assets for the future. And maybe, just maybe in 2 years or so the team is loaded with young talent.

Good thing we didn’t acquire an elite closer with term at the deadline last year when this was also an issue.

I know you are a hard-core minor league fan Frank and know the youngsters well. I just really don’t see other smart options for the Tigers. They can’t just keep all the older guys on expiring contracts and hope to make an epic run. They would have to go 25 and 15 in the next 40 games before the trade deadline to still be in it. And even that is still below .500 overall.

Gonna be a massive sell off IMO

Ah. More waiting. That makes total sense.

There’s no sense in trying to fix this team’s problems with established MLB talent. We should instead wait for prospects to come up and then take another three years to maybe develop into good MLB players, by which time this team’s current talented players will mostly be gone or out of their prime…and watch that cycle repeat endlessly.

There was no sense in trying to push your chips in last year when you were 25 games over .500 in mid July…instead of trading for Kyle Finnegan and a bunch of rodeo clowns and calling it a day.

At this point I don’t really see how selling off at the deadline helps this team for the future.

1B is set for the future
2B has options coming through the system already
SS has their future already in the system
3B can be set with McGonigle
RF could be addressed in future FA if Carp doesn’t work out
CF has their future already in the system
LF is already on the roster
C is already on the roster, plus additional talent already in the system.

So who or what position are we targeting with a sell off, and who are we selling. Skubal, Mize?

Why not prefer to re-sign Skubal and Mize and then have a rotation of Skubal Mize, Jobe, Olsen, Melton or Montero.

With a young corp of…

Briceno
Anderson
Ranier
McGonigle
Carpenter
Clark
Greene
Dingler, Liranzo

I think everyone prefers to do this.

The fact that we won’t/can’t is the cause for discussion.

Seems the last few posts indicate folks prefer to sell.

And who says we won’t/can’t. We really don’t know that.

So if folks are all hyped to now ā€œsellā€ at the deadline. Then break it down. Who are we selling? Who are we getting rid of? What positions are we targeting and who are we giving up on that is already in our system?

First of all. Good post.

There is alot to consider before pulling the trigger on Harris. He isn’t just running the big club. Getting a new guy likely means a shift in philosophy for the entire organization including all levels of the minors and the way we draft.

Harris dropped the ball big time this year. Everyone and their brothers knew we needed offense. Everyone except him and the people around him. Firing him though should be the last resort because if he goes we will indeed be blowing it up. From the big leagues to the lower level minors.

Well as usual I disagree with most here.
No, don’t fire Hinch, yes he drives me nuts with his lineups and especially the handling of Keith and Carp.
hell no don’t fire Harris…sheesh

Team struggles and here come those who ignore the game threads until the team starts struggling. Then fire this guy that guy etc. Granted Socko has been consistent on wanting Hinch gone.

We have 8 weeks til the deadline so I’m not looking to do anything right now.
Lets get some players back: Carp, Baez, Meadows, Torres, Skubal, Melton(today), Jobe.
See where they are in two weeks
See where they are in four weeks.

Also will give us an idea of what Skubal looks like when he returns.

Then make a decision.
