Tigers vs Orioles; Sept 13-15

I think it was slow and then rushed. The juice was only in the movie for 17 minutes

Pacing was weak, for sure

There is gonna be alot more buzz around the Tigers when we beat Burnes today.

From the Freep, kid is growing right in front of us, still not sure what he is long term. The starting pitching methodology is probably helping as they, Hurter/Madden the long relievers ie starters in the 2nd, causes them to miss the top of the lineup…

Hurter, a 26-year-old in his eighth MLB appearance, took down 5⅔ innings of the combined one-hitter, sandwiched between the first 1⅓ innings from Brieske and the final two innings from Hanifee and Holton. He registered eight strikeouts — four swinging, four looking — while throwing 53 of 71 pitches for strikes.

Hurter, who had a 5.80 ERA in Triple-A Toledo, delivered first-pitch strikes to 17 of 18 batters, including first-pitch strikes to each of his first 14 batters.

He dominated the Orioles with his sinker and sweeper.

“It seemed like they weren’t seeing the sinker well, which got me some chases with the slider,” Hurter said. “I think they just weren’t comfortable in the box.”

Hurter owns a 2.56 ERA in 38⅔ innings in his MLB career.

Small section of a Detroit News article on Kerry Carpenter and the rhyme or reason behind his timeouts when at the plate…

Kerry games

Watch how Kerry Carpenter uses his one timeout during his at-bats. Most hitters use it after they get two strikes. Carpenter will use it any time, even before he starts the at-bat.

“It depends,” he said. “Sometimes I just want to reset. Sometimes I want to make the pitcher think. I do it 3-0 or 3-1. I don’t really have a rhyme or reason. Sometimes I do it after a swing and I just want to calm down a little bit.”

Sometimes, though, there is both rhyme or reason to when he does it. There’s an element of gamesmanship.

“I will do it 3-1, sometimes kind of for me, but also for (the pitcher),” he said. “Just to make him think. Like, you better make a pitch.”

Timeout or no timeout, Carpenter often takes the pitch clock down to 12 or 10 seconds before he steps in. It’s his way of controlling the pace of his at-bats, even with the pitch-clock restrictions.

It’s a shame he missed so much time this year. We could have been looking at a .300 season with 25 bombs.

He’s gonna do it next year though…book it.

Wild pitch thrown out at home

Twins still up 1-0

As soon as Maeda came in, I knew the game was over. That guy sucks. I don’t know why we keep him.

I had a psychic vision that Maeda was going from suck to blow.

Maeda, unfortunately is an arm that they need to use to eat up innings here and there. Unfortunately, or better now than later, vs the orioles was one of those days

I agree, but he should only be used in blowouts. Not when the game is close.
