Flaherty, Tigers: Flaherty got shelled by the Reds in his last outing on Saturday. He gave up seven runs on five hits, including three home runs, that mostly came during a disastrous fifth inning. He’ll look to shake off the forgettable outing and stick with the form he had for the first four innings against Cincinnati, the same form that saw him win his prior three starts, in which he gave up one earned run across 18 innings of work.
Baz, Rays: An effective albeit unremarkable arm in the Rays rotation, Baz has been effective in the win column this year even if he hasn’t been the best at always getting outs. He is coming off one of his best outings of the year, pitching into the seventh inning and giving up three hits as he and the Rays shut out the Mets. Command has been an issue of late for Baz, as he’s walked eight total hitters in his last three starts.
