Yea, now we wait to see if '“loose bodies” is all that it is and I wouldn’t be shocked if more is needed. From the article in the tweet:
How does prior elbow surgery – Tommy John surgery (in 2016) and flexor tendon surgery (in 2022) – impact this situation?
“If the medial collateral ligament [also known as the ulnar collateral ligament] that was reconstructed starts stretching over time, that can be another reason for damage in the joint because the elbow goes into more of a position called valgus, which puts stress on the joint. There can be bone-on-bone impingement in the posterior part of the elbow in full extension, and the bone spurs can potentially cause loose bodies in the joint. If you remove them, and that instability is there, unfortunately, the problem is not going to be solved because that residual instability over time can cause the same problem again. That can make the rehab longer because they have to recover and do more strengthening. But if they have no instability, the Tommy John is solid and the flexor repair is completely healed, that should not affect recovery.”
Could another Tommy John surgery be required?
"If the medial collateral ligament has insufficiency, the player may need another Tommy John down the road. Before the operation, through imaging and physical exam, we can get enough information to see if it’s unstable or not, but in the operation, we can get more information by stressing the elbow and seeing how much gap there is, how much instability we get.
So yeah not coming back this year.
It will be a preview of what life after Skubal will look like. Hopefully the emergence of Mize isn’t just colored bubbles. If this is real it would be huge for us.

I don’t see the big stink over losing skuuby for any period of time. We already lose his starts due to lack of offense. Is it a moral victory to lose 1-0 or 2-1?

I don’t understand why McGonigle isn’t playing every day. He’s 20 years old. Does he need the rest? We need him in the lineup.
The Tigers probably should’ve traded Skubal in the offseason. That arm was never going to hold up over an 8-year contract.

I’m not really sure Boras or Skubal got screwed no matter what happens.
He can return from another TJ and pitch for another five years plus easily. The dodgers would be all over him, look at how they have stacked starters on the DL so they can return for the second half of the season. Millions of dollars, I have no doubt they would go after him with a significant contract that Detroit can’t afford to gamble on like they can.
Figure 2027 is a lost year or lost portion of a season so if Skubal is out for a year he can potentially come back say mid late August next season. Just in time for a playoff push.
Oh I know it’s not a complete Wipeout but what it does is put another dagger in the back of the minds of players that listen to Boris about not taking extensions and going all the way through especially starting pitchers. Anything that gets players to not listen to that guy’s b******* game is a plus.
There’s no way somebody’s going to pay Scooby the same contract next season they would have gotten without this though there’s definitely going to be a risk analysis and reduction and whether that’s a one-year pillow contract or a short three year Verlander or Shares are with the Mets kind of contract or simply the long-term deal but with a lower dollar amount one of those things are going to happen
