The Lions have the second fewest pressures in the NFL (6) through week 1, are only 1 of 3 teams without a sack and only had 2 qb hits. Meanwhile, Jared Goff got pressured 13 times, hit 9 times, and sacked 4 times. TT means absolutely nothing.
The Lions did nothing to bother Love and Jared Goff was hounded most of the game.
TT, Pressures, and Hurries are very subjective determinations. Itās like PI, thereās a lot of nuance and 2 people looking at the same play can come to completely different conclusions. Pressure up the middle is harder than pressure from the edge.
It really is amazing to watch the highlights of the Packersā O. As you say, Love is COMPLETELY untroubled. 2 QB hits all game is embarrassing.
That said, as DC has said for years, the key will be how they respond. Lions havenāt lost two in a row in how long? And coming off an ugly loss, first home game, facing Ben - they have tons of incentive to show better.
Iām honestly less concerned with the DL than I am the OL right now. Hutch and Davenport may still be shaking off rust. We will also get Alim back at some point.
There is no telling how the kids will progress at G. I personally think Graham is cooked. And there is no one coming to save the day on the OL. Not feeling confident there at all.
I really think Mahogany will show better soon. Rat will show too, but when? Iām not convinced GG is done, but not convinced he isnāt either. Was his bad performance last year about playing LG or about encroaching age?
Flip GG and Rat? Sounds like itāll be āa whileā before we can see Colon at C.
PFF says he was under pressure nearly 40% of his dropbacks. 43 drop backs, 16 pressures, 9 hits, 4 sacks.
But sure, lets go with the stats from some guy with 6k followers on Twitter.
Also, from the Athletic:
Normally, the Lions could lean on one of the leagueās best offensive lines to dig them out of holes. However, the Lions allowed a pressure rate of 37.2 percent, per TruMedia. Goff was pressured on 16 of his 43 dropbacks and sacked four times. That was despite the Packers blitzing on just 11.4 percent of those dropbacks. You felt Green Bayās pass rush getting stronger as the game progressed. And because the Lions had to abandon a run game that wasnāt generating much (46 yards on 22 attempts), it allowed the Packers and their shiny new toy ā Micah Parsons ā to peel back and get after Goff.
This 100%. IOL is a mess. These guys need reps to gel, and we might get our QB killed along the way. I also agree that GG looks done. If the guards improve their play, that should compensate. But GG is a stopgap at best.
