Trade Skubal?

Whoa. I just had a difference of opinion dude. I was even careful how I worded it as not to offend you. How was anything I said “like pooping on you”?

That wasn’t towards you btw

Even with the shaved head, it will depend on how many teams are willing to go Skubal diving

The time to trade him was before the season, the Tigers blew this and it was obvious they would.

So now they sell him at the deadline for pennys on the dollar….

it’s the same lineup as last year with a worse bullpen and starting pitching (mostly because of injuries). Complete dumpster fire.

He would mean the world to a legit contender. He’s the best pitcher in baseball. And his injury was nothing.

Exactly my feelings as well. This talk about his value tanking is way way way overblown IMO. The biggest question, if they do decide to trade him, is who can afford him, and who has the prospects that would bring the return that we’d want.

His value is tanking due to the lack of term the acquiring team would have over him…not because other teams would presume him to be a lesser player because of this procedure.

Could be. My hope would be that a bidding war would up the compensation. And part of that bidding war should be the Tigers being serious enough to not just give him away for scraps. Skubal being re-signed by the Tigers should be a serious option on the table unless we get blown away. As Weasel has noted on a couple occasions there are offsets in the coming years that make signing Skubal not a bank breaker.

Current payroll is at what, $209,000,000 +/-?

So if Ilitch is comfortable enough to remain at that level then signing Skubal shouldn’t be a problem. Skubs is already at $32,000,000 of that payroll.

The problem right now is that the Tigers are shitting the bed and if Ilitch loses faith that we’re on the right path he may shy away from that type of investment. We need this team to get healthy, start winning some freaking games, and get in the playoffs with some games in Comerica for that extra revenue to keep Ilitch satisfied that there will be some ROI.

Skub may still get a 7 year deal, but if so, he would now want some earlier opt-outs to re-enter the market and bump that AAV up.

7/300, a little front loaded, so more like a 2/95 with a player option 1/45 and then a 4 / 160 team option would be fun.

Trade-wise as a rental he coukd still bring a Top 100 overall prospect and a couple Top 250s.

Like DePaula or Hope+ Cam Leiter and another projectable useful young arm (Dodgers trade)

If the Dodgers offered a package centered around either DePaula or Hope, and River Ryan we would be stupid not to take it.

We might be able to squeeze Sasaki out of them too. Hes struggling but still has alot of potential.

If they don’t turn things around big time in the next 60 days, I hope they go full on FIRE SALE with expiring deals.

Harris might want to start taking auctioneer lessons.

I didn’t realize that Mize was a free agent too. With the way he is pitching that becomes a big story line too.

I hope we at least re-sign him. He isn’t an ace but he is becoming a #1 type pitcher or at least a high #2.

Letting Skubal walk for nothing would be a malpractice.

Plus whatever we get in a Skubal trade still has the makings of a good rotation. If they finally invest in our offense, and with a couple of the young guys getting called up, we could still have a good team even without Skubal.

I dont want to trade him, but I dont see him resigning with the tigers. The tigers can use the injured bug has a excuse, but their still having the sane issues hitting the ball.

I agree with your concerns about the hitting being a major issue.

And… when acknowledging that issue, that is my reason that I hope they trade Skubal. If I were Harris, I would tell Skubal that the Tigers want him to be a part of the future, but also need to take advantage of getting assets in a trade in case he decides to sign elsewhere.

After all, there is just as much of a chance to sign him back in the offseason regardless of whether he is traded or not. It could be just like the way Flaherty came back after winning a World Series in L.A.

I think most people here would agree that this team isn’t winning a World Series with the current lineup… even if they tried to buy a frw decents bats at the deadline. I would also say I don’t want them to give up any decent prospects for any rentals.

Barring a major turnaround… I want them to SELL on 2026.

Then sign Skubal back in the offseason if possible.

That would absolutely be the best case scenario.
