Signing Reader (along with developing BroMart) killed the likelihood of the Lions drafting a Nose in the first 2 days of the draft.
I donât think Sweat was on their Board (being that far overweight says a lot about discipline and work ethic) but this incident I believe takes him off completely.
No Turds.
Never thought Sweat was what they were looking for anyway between Reader and BroMart being on the team. Youâd just be blocking BroMart anyway by taking Sweat. Canât see a situation where Sweat would be drafted by the Lions
It is only a steal if he actually turns into a player.
1st round 7th round matters little in some way. I think this is one of the things that Holmes and MCDC have stressed. Bring in good stock and get them trained up. Have a program in place to improve players once they get here. That has been something that has been missing âas a whole teamâ for the Lions.
I am beginning to believe that the Lions can draft anyone and if they are willing to listen the Lions can make them into a player. This is a stretch and putting it out there but I am so impressed with the player development we have seen since MCDC has taken over. We are now the Steelers of the NFCâŚand I Iove it.
I really like the approach as well. It establishes the Franchise as a consistent winner with a stable consistent culture.
There is a downside to the approach.
While it allows for consistently good and competitive production over time, the conservative approach may miss opportunities that can produce championships.
Pittsburgh, Dallas, Green Bay, Baltimore, Kansas City, New England, and Seattle Generally follow a draft and develop philosophy that has resulted in consistent long term winning but not necessarily a bunch of Super Bowls (those that hit on a QB have won Super Bowls).
Many fans want a more aggressive approach and are willing to go back to being bad or mediocre for a while to get that one Super Bowl.
You are 100% correct.
There is a downside. Which I think the key to this approach is in a few key positions. Clearly QB being a position that if you have a top 10 or high trigger man you will give your team a shot at the SB year in and year out. So development of the QB position becomes just as important. Maybe HH is the next QB for the Lions but he will only be a 6-7 year playerâŚwho knows.
âBased on feedback from teams, my best guess is he will still be available as we start day three of the NFL Draft in the fourth round.ââ Dane Brugler, national NFL writer
He is like 26 now. I am guessing Goff has 3-4 more years. So that means he gets the start around 30. So if he plays till later 30s that means a 6-7 year run. I am just projecting his start date and being solid till 37-38ish. Sure maybe 40 so give it a 7-10 year run.
Hendon just turned 26 yes and goff turns 30 this season, if goff has 3-4 years in detroit i am assuming we moved off him for hooker or a young qb because that would be post extension.
Either way if we had goff for 3 or 4 more years, hooker could play 7-10 of high level if he panned out and that is significantly more than i would expect from a 3rd round qb.
I fully expect us to sign goff to a 4-5 year extension if not more so this may be moot in detroit
