Welcome to my Nightmare

Come with me on a journey of what may be…

Week 10

"It’s been a magical first nine weeks for the surprising 7-2 Detroit Lions, fresh off a 35-16 thumping of the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau that saw WR’s Amon-Ra St Brown and Jameson Williams combine for over 200 receiving yards and three touchdowns, while the Lions ground game contributed 150 rushing yards and a pair of scores.

"Tragically, while running out the clock, QB Jared Goff tripped over teammate Will Harris’s mouthpiece, resulting in a sprain expected to keep him out of action for the next 5-7 weeks. "

Week 15 Post-game

"The 7-7 Lions have lost several close games as adventurous gunslinger Tim Boyle is never afraid to throw into triple coverage, even when he doesn’t have a receiver in the area. Boyle was replaced in the 3rd quarter of Sundays game after throwing his 19th interception in the last 5 games. On the bright side, few offensive players have racked up as many tackles as the Lions Penei Sewell. Upon hearing the news he was going into the game, QB David Blow, I mean Blough, promptly threw up into his helmet while listening to QB Coach Mark Brunell’s pep talk.

"Unfortunately, Blough forgot he threw up in his helmet, in a stunning clip no one else will be forgetting anytime soon. The reeling Lions are praying that Jared Goff will get better soon. "

Week 16 Post-game

“I have to admit folks, I’ve never seen anything quite like this before. QB David Blough, after throwing up multiple times, began stripping at the 50 yard line, screaming ‘I’m finally free!’. QB Tim Boyle finished the game, throwing only three more interceptions as the Lions fall to 7-8 and watch their once promising season slipping away”

Week 17 Post-game

"QB Jared Goff tried to make it, but was ruled out by trainers in pregame warm-ups. QB Steven Montez led a plucky game, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Bills in Buffalo as the Lions have been eliminated from the postseason, yet again.

"One can only wonder how different things might be if the Lions had a quarterback capable of winning just a few games in Goff’s absence. Instead, we’ll all be left to wonder, what might have been. "

All that amazing string of events started with the lions being 7-2. I think it’s a safe bet this scenario doesn’t come to fruition.

Wait until next year…again.

Interesting but rest easy in it not being very realistic. Your dream, after all, did have Will Harris making the team.

Great post! So much more interesting than “I’m worried about our backup QB position.” Well done!

I’m hopeful we will snatch somebody else up before the season. I mean, we have visually seen that the backup qbs will probably not be able to hold the fort. Maybe a cut before the season will release someone decent? Maybe Montez falls into the ‘not awful’ territory? A guy can dream.

That’s not unrealistic. They like will as a 3rd 4th option. Not the starter.

There are a lot of guys they like on the bubble. (especially if they keep 6 LBs)
Last year the struggle was to find 25 players to keep on defense (I seem to remember thinking it’d be easy to get down to 19, let alone 25). This year there will be some cuts that aren’t as easy to make.

There’s always Fox to lead us to the promise land.

100% there are going to be a lot of people that you saw play a lot last year not make it this year. Cephus might not make this team. No UDFA Wr making this squad. it’s going to be a different year. But Harris is not someone to easily dismiss. They love his traits and they love him as a depth player. If someone gets injured you can use him. Two players I don’t think to get cut and some might think they do are Brockers and Harris.

Brockers is a lock.

While I did make Harris the butt of my joke to start this tangent, it is truly with an eye on the depth chart and knowing that there are only so many players that fit on the 53-man roster, when I say he’s on the outside looking in.

Starting from an assumption that there are:
10 DL-type defenders
6 LBs (off ball)
That leaves you with 10 DBs.

Personally, I have us at 5LBs and 11 DBs and still don’t have room for him.

Who’s in? What are your 10 and who’s not making it? It’s not as easy as last year, that is for sure.

SDH has to stay healthy Jared and Houston might be playing for a spot. Or it could come down to who is healthy of those three.

I think Hughes and Harris might be fighting for a spot. I wouldn’t be shocked at all if Harris makes it bc I know they like him. Great locker room guy, works hard, is Uber athletic just struggles w processing. As a backup he is quality, gonna be interesting to see how the camp battles and health play out.

I don’t love Cephus or even particularly like him. But he better make the team over Raymond. Raymond is what he is and that is roster bubble material. Cephus has upside and has potential fill in starter type of upside. Could be a really good #4/adequate starter for a short stretch.

I really hope Cephus is kept before Raymond.

Raymond is an excellent return specialist and a grinder. Cephus is redundant……….

We will likely keep 6 WR’s, especially because J-Mo is coming off surgery. Raymond and Cephus are going to make the team. Goff actually had a good connection with Cephus and has spoken highly of him, Raymond will be the main punt returner, he had a very good average on returns last year.

Why all the hate toward Cephus? He was pretty good at Wisconsin and thought he was a solid 5th rd pick. Pretty sure he makes the squad.

It is pretty simple: If Goff gets injured, the backup situation is so bad here that they can’t win more than 3 games. #1 pick would be a legitimate chance at that point.

Yeah, it’s impossible to keep all the guys they like…

You could fit in Harris and Hamilton, but it’d be at the expense (most likely) of Moore and Lucas.
I think Woods is a safer bet making the squad than not making it.

Simply in terms of the backup QB situation, it’s comparable to when Peyton Manning went down in preseason and the Colts ended up with the first pick. Jim Sorgi might have been an excellent mind, but your backup should be more.

If only we could pay 5 mill a year for a outstanding backup like Chase Daniels.!!! lol
