I wonder what their plans are for Jamo in re 2nd contract. That would def shape my thinking in re need.
As has been the case since Brad got here.
I expect him to go into the draft with not clear needs or roster weaknesses so he can get the best players available. He has shown that he gets it.
And as many have posted and I agree or fall into the same group. Noooo idea what he will do. The RB-LB-TE-S draft blew me away and may prove to be his best of all time. Easily 2 dudes who could be future HOF players. Crazy
Agreed on the interior OL option. Do good DTs fall to our pick range often? Seems like they all get found really early or weirdly late.
For some reason seeing it put this way cracks me up. Gotta love going totally away from the positional value thing and having it hit so well.
There are some examples…
Chris Jones - pick 37
Christian Barmore - pick 38
Kenny Clark - pick 27
Cam Heyward - pick 31
Levi - pick 41
The best ones are usually taken in the teens and the value seems to be in the 3rd round
He’s pretty sticky but I think his tackling would be an issue for us. As a WR convert perhaps he needs more time to get better at it but it’s definitely a noticeable weakness for him.
He doesn’t play the run well at all. Zero chance he is a Lion, imo. Here’s the guys in the second the Lions have drafted and their PFF run grades since Brad has been GM:
Draft | RDEF |
---|---|
Terrion Arnold | 90.6 |
Brian Branch | 90.7 |
Ennis Rakestraw | 89 |
Kerby Joseph | 76.5 |
Chase Lucas | 75.6 |
Ifeatu Melifonwu | 72.8 |
Porter has a PFF run grade of 36.8 (802nd out of 803 CBs this year). It would be the lowest of any drafted CB BY far. Even their UDFAs haven’t gone that low other than Jerry Jacobs and there’s a reason he isn’t on the roster anymore.
UDFA | RDEF |
---|---|
Steven Gilmore | 84.1 |
Starling Thomas V | 79.2 |
Brady Breeze | 75.6 |
Morice Norris | 71.2 |
Loren Strickland | 69.2 |
Brandon Joseph | 62 |
Jerry Jacobs | 40.2 |
Not to say this is the only thing they’re looking at, but it’s pretty clear the Lions want guys who are going to be solid in run defense. But for me, personally, if they’re not a plus run defender, I’m removing them from the pool of secondary players that I think the Lions would be interested in.
Everything but QB, RB, TE, Kicker and Punter.

Based on pending FAs and lingering injuries, and favoring other contracts coming due after 2025 season… that’s my top 4 and WR3, CB, LB and safety depth aren’t far behind.
At the below ceiling offers- I’d try and solidly some spot for next year, and even long term by offering these deals…
Kerby- 4 yrs 73M(3rd highest sty contract)
Zietler- 1 yr 9M (he’s 35 he would stay)
Levi O- 1 yr 7M (prove it deal)
Iffy- 1 yr 4M (prove it deal)
Tim Patrick- 1 yr 3.5M (31 injury prone)
I see zero reason to give Hutch 35M per with his 4th and 5th year option still left. Week 8 if he has 7 sacks already- sure break the record.
FA- outside we won’t go nuts, but a few pieces… hopefully non injury prone multi year guys.
Mike Hilton- vet slot machine, his age will keep the contract down, but he’s sticky and he will hit you at the NB spot. Perfect guy in place for Rake to be able to ease into it.
- 2 years 10M (6M guaranteed)
BJ Hill- he’ll be 30, but has worked great next to Reader, and has 3 straight with 700 snaps… 3 plus snaps… 50 plus tackles… and 9 plus QB hits!!!
- 2 years 13M (10M guaranteed)
Tyrel Dodson- nice coverage backer who could get a sack or two, and is 3 years younger than AA
- 3 years 18M (11M guaranteed)
Draft:
JT Tuimoloa- ideal big DE opposite Hutch and rotating with Z Smith… keeping Paschal in a reduced snap role
Davison Igbinosun- love the size and speed, production and age…. He and Arnold could be specimens on the outside. He can sit behind Robertson til he’s ready.
Luke Kandra- could be playing RG opposite Mahogany on the left side in 26’ and beyond.
Nick Nash- feels like a DC type pick… captain, crazy production and 6’3” size with reported 4.45 speed and experience at QB before a monster season at WR!!! Trick plays?
Mitchell Evans- size and speed with some production at TE
Jay Higgins- nifty coverage LB with some pop and some accolades on his resume’
This offseason make us absurd in 2025
Goff/Hooker
Gibbs/Monty
Laporta/B Wright/Evans
Decker/Skipper
Mahogany/GG
Ragnow/GG
Zietler/Kandra
Sewell/Manu
Amon Ra
Jamo

N Nash
Hutch/Paschal
Alim/Levi O/Wingo
Reader/B Hill
Z Smith/JT Tuimoloa
AA/Dodson/Higgins/JRM
Jack Campbell/Rodrigo
Hilton/Rake
Arnold/Rake
Robertson/Igbinosun
Kerby/Iffy
Branch/Iffy
Not crazy spending. Pretty realistic draft
Thoughts?
Idk why so many are saying WR?
Heres what we have on Offense for 2025
QB - (nope) Goff, Hooker
RB - (nope) Gibbs, Month, Vaki
WR - (maybe later) St Brown, Jamo, Raymond, Green (yes hes on the team, cleared waivers, now onIR)
TE - (nope) Laporta, Wright)
OT - (nope) Sewell, Decker, Sorsdal, Manu, Galvin
OG - (YES) Glasgow, Mahagony….
OC - (maybe) Ragnow, Neice
Offense the BIGGEST need by far is IOL.
A backup Center that can play guard would be ideal. Develop the replacement for Rags or Glasgow.
WR - Maybe. They still have Green. Coach was high on him. They could still sign Patrick for cheap. Unless someone falls i wouldn’t draft a X WR early ever.
Defense.
DL (ALL OF IT)
NT - Reader, Martin
3 Tech - McNeil, Wingo, Paschal
DE - Hutch, Smith, Lynn
Very thin. Starters are good but They need a lot more depth
LB - (Yes!)
ILB - Anzalone, Cambell, JRM
OLB - Rodreguez (Nowaske & Agude are ERFA so they can be resigned cheap)
Again same issue as DL.
DBs - (YES)
OCB - Arnold. Robertson,
NB - Rake
SA - Branch, Kerby
Literally 0 depth.
The defense has a great top 11-14. After that NOTHING.
Well see who gets brought back. But in terms of free agency and the draft.
I would like to see ALLL defense and a IOL.
I will say depth at WR is a need. I’d even add another TE. But I’m always looking for DLine help and LB help….you just can’t have enough of those. Really, you can’t have enough of anything
DE

take care 2 in fa then draft the other two.
Judging from past history, I’d expect them to already have all of the “holes” filled by the time draft comes around tbh. Seems to be Brad’s MO. Fill holes with saavy FA signings and approach the draft with a “we’re taking our guy” approach.
I could see that as well
Can we just wait until after the Senior Bowl…
or maybe… just maybe…
the Super Bowl… to start these convos?
This isn’t the SOL anymore!
I’d say 4 biggest needs are
DE
DT
LB
G
If Davis is not resigned then CB slide to #3
Right, so you either think he can be coached up or you don’t. I have never seen a QBR this low before though, have you?
