When was the last time we hired a smart head coach

When was the last time we had a really smart head coach like Ben Johnson. These are the head coaches I know Wayne Fontes, Bobby Ross, Marty Mornhinweg, Steve Mariucci, Rod Marinelli, Jim Schwartz, Jim Caldwell, Matt Patricia, and Dan Campbell.
Nobody stand out to me, marty and Schwartz were fraud too even though misunderstood them as good coordinators. We are not going anywhere without a creative head coach. If we had a good head coach he decide players ,not like holmes control everything

Still my favorite coach in my time as a fan. Dude brought us out of our darkest hour as a franchise and restored a bit of respectability with a Millen protege as a GM.

I warned this few years back, we need different style head coach to win playoff games in road, mark my words..Also in grass we have no chance even if opponent is willing to trim the grass

As Henry Ford is famously quoted, “I don’t have to be the smartest of men, I just have to hire the smartest men.”

Smart coaches can only do so much with backups and 3rd stringers.

Trent Dilfer told me that you can win a Super Bowl with a terrible QB if you have a strong Oline and a Stout Defense.

You can’t win shit without them.

We saw dans play calling last year ,nothing special other than involving jamo more , opponents figured dans play calling after his first game play calling, nothing creative

Did you happen to see the Oline and Defense?

Hint, they looked a lot like the game last night, and, damn near every game in 21.

On the bright side. The Dline is showing some improvement. If only they could get to the QB in one second.

Dan is a smart guy. I’d be willing to bet that all coaches that make it to professional football tend to be ‘smart’ as it pertains to their specific areas of expertise. With that said, it takes more than just being smart to translate into success on the football field.

Put another way, there are plenty of people in normal, every day jobs that are ‘smart’ in the X’s and O’s of whatever job it is they are doing. But many do not make good leaders. Coaches need to not only be smart, but need to relay their intelligence effectively to those they lead. If they fail in that, doesn’t matter how smart you are if you can’t get the troops to understand not only what the objective is but how to accomplish it.

Using the current hot topic of our defense as an example, I have no doubt Shep knows the X’s and O’s. Where I think he struggles is identifying what his current talent pool is best at and putting together the right combination of X’s and O’s to maximize their chances of success. There’s a difference in just being smart in the tactical part of the job vs. being strategic/tactical at the same time.
