I think the Lions might be able to trade down in the first round, get a few extra picks and still take the punter they want in the top 10.
Punters seem more or less interchangeable, but I guess picking a guy in the late rounds might be okay, because those late round guys usually don’t contribute much ever if they even make the team.
Mann or Turk would be fine. Both will be a massive upgrade over the recently departed What’s-His-Face.
Who do we have on reserve currently? Do we even need to draft one? We’ve had a couple of dudes that were bombing them in preseason, in recent years.
None
After making a “who cares” comment when I saw a draft earlier that had a punter in it, I did some checking. I would say in a normal year you should simply pass. Mann looks to be special.
Whoever it is, I just want them to be VERSATILE! Punts and kicks off, holds for extra points and field goals, tackles like a middle linebacker, runs sideline to sideline, has fluid hips and a quick twitch, runs a 4.4 40, can block kicks of the opposing kickers and punters, etc., etc., etc…
Fox’s breakout 2018 season. The year began with a walk-off win over Prairie View A&M, spearheaded by five field-flipping punts by Fox and his first-ever game-winning field goal as time expired. It only got better from there. Fox would lead Conference USA with an average of 45.5 yards per punt, 31 punts inside the 20-yard line, 26 punts of 50 or more yards with a long of 76 yards against North Texas.
Fox was with the Chiefs during training camp, where he demonstrated that he had a big leg Lions Calimed him Dec 5/19
His role in Detroit might also include calling on his kickoff abilities in practices. Fox produced touchbacks on nearly 70 percent of his kickoff attempts in 2018 for Rice. Regular punter Sam Martin is the normal Lions kickoff man, but a lingering injury has led to the team favoring kicker Matt Prater to handle the kickoff chores.
