Who could we, MP, get for a new DC

Yes, I do know that with the season on the line, on a team with very few weapons, you don’t take ALL OF YOUR WEAPONS OFF THE FIELD! But go ahead and defend that too, because Bevell should go unquestioned even though nobody else in the league employed him last year and he is best known for not running the ball with beast mode to give Seattle an almost guaranteed Super Bowl win.

every time the offense touches the ball it should end in a touchdown, unless the clock hits 0. I’d even cut my punter and field goal kicker.

Basically what happens when opposing teams face Patricia’s defense.

Hire Jim Leonard away from Wisconsin

Bob Sutton (Michigander that’s probably ousted in Atlanta)
Kris Richard (though that would be kinda creepy grabbing Seattles former OC and DC)

Certainly no worse than trying to replicate San Francisco and then Tampa Bay.

Maybe even pull a Gunther here… keep MPs guy on staff like they did Gunther…

While picking a new DC…

I’ll go on record again…

I literally have no desire to replace coaches. I want better horses. If Pasqualoni, Davis, Golden and Stewart are all back, I’m ok with it. If they’re all gone, I’m ok with that, too. What really matters to me are the horses on the field.

And I’m ok with this option as well.

We all want the def to be better. So what ever it takes and I agree In keeping continuity as much as possible !!

I would look for someone that has had success turning around a defense or sustained a very good defense.

Dick LeBeau
Mike Zimmer
Wade Phillips
Dean Pees (Former Baltimore Ravens DC, now with Tennessee) Worked with Matt Patricia in the past.
Dan Quinn (My guy if Atlanta fires him but may go back to Seattle)
Vic Fangio (If fired by Denver)
Dom Capers is another guy to keep an eye on. DA for Jacksonville. Worked with Matt Patricia in the past.
Mike Nolan, LB coach for New Orleans
Jim Haslett, Cincy/2018
Perry Fewell, Panthers DB coach
Give Rob Ryan another chance?

I am pretty sure he would find a lot of fault with Jesus.

The problem is this is MP’s defense. He will not bring in someone that wants to run their defense. He will only bring in someone that will run his defense. That is why PP is here. The problem is what PP is doing during the week to get these guys prepared. Is it the right things? I still don’t know if we have a schematic problem, a position coach problem or a player problem (injury and/or talent).

Good list brother - thank you!

Maybe the guy who worked with MP before?!

And this is also MP’s offense and special teams. Matt Patricia was also an offensive coaching assistant and Oline coach for the Patriots. Later, linebacker coach, safety coach, and DC. As a player, he played the center and guard positions so he has experience on both sides of the ball.

Ideally, you would want to hire someone you have worked with before but that’s not always the case. I think you have to have an open mind when hiring NFL coaches. Hopefully, they share the same philosophies and everything will be groovy. The new defensive coordinator would also have to mesh with the current defensive coaching staff. Maybe the Lions will promote within if PP is fired, retired, or moved to a position like an advisor role. Al Golden, the linebacker coach and Brian Stewart, DB coach, has experience as defensive coordinators.

Maybe MP could also hire former NE defensive players to his coaching staff to run his defense.

The more you look at it, the fewer the options.
As I pondered it earlier, I land easier at a spot where PP is retained and Golden, Stewart or Davis are replaced. Reason being that it’s easier to replace a position coach from outside the NE/Syracuse bubble than it is a DC. So, you could get a guy like Champ Bailey, for instance, to replace Brian Stewart.

Another pathway I really didn’t think about! Thx u :+1::upside_down_face::heart:

There are a lot of quality names on that list. One note about Rob Ryan, I would bring him in as more of a consultant. He’s got a great football mind and could help both the offensive coordinator and the defensive coordinator. However, he’s too football smart for his own good, and one of his downfalls is he has very little interest in “dumbing down” his scheme to fit the personnel. He knows what the offense is doing, but he tries to have an answer and a wrinkle for everything. Its too much unless you have a great core of smart veterans, and he doesn’t seem to care.

I think you may be mistaking Rob Ryan who’s never been any higher than a defensive coordinator for his brother Rex Ryan who was head coach for the Jets and the Bills ??

Dick LeBeau - he’ll be 83 next season so probably not
Mike Zimmer - if they Vikes were silly enough to fire him he’d get a HC job in a heartbeat
Wade Phillips - if McVay let’s him go sign me up
Dean Pees (Former Baltimore Ravens DC, now with Tennessee) Worked with Matt Patricia in the past. - under contract
Dan Quinn (My guy if Atlanta fires him but may go back to Seattle) - I’d think that perhaps Quinn and MP have philosophic differences
Vic Fangio (If fired by Denver) - everybody will be going after him. Home run if possible
Dom Capers is another guy to keep an eye on. DA for Jacksonville. Worked with Matt Patricia in the past. - Meh
Mike Nolan, LB coach for New Orleans - only if he gets to wear suits
Jim Haslett, Cincy/2018 - Meh
Perry Fewell, Panthers DB coach - not familiar with him
Give Rob Ryan another chance? -
