Who else can we all agree will need to be paid in the future?

Hutch is going to be a unanimous pick. Pay him whatever he wants.

I think LaPorta is going to need a new deal when the time comes.

I’d pay Branch.

I hope we have to pay Terrion one day, but we have at least 5 years of his rookie deal if we need it.

And other than maybe Alim, who do we need to pay?

I of course hope Jamo gets a new deal but we have him for three more years under team control. I’d try and pay Kerby too if I could.

Next up is Decker

Decker could be a tricky one. I think he’s a top end LT but he doesn’t get a lot of the hype. I’d hate to think of us now without him. That new Goff contract might not look all that good.

He’s said he wants to retire a Lion I believe. Loves Hank, GG and Frank the Tank. I think Decker stays a couple more years.

Hutch
Decker
Alim
Barnes
Iffy

All guys hitting free agency before long. We do have a 5th year option on Hutch. Which is good if needed. The other 4 all entering a contract year.

Good call… we sure do have a lot of starters on contract years. They should be motivated to perform.

Decker for two years.

We don’t need to pay anyone. All of the likely suspects for resigning or extending have to negotiate within Brad’s World and Their World. Both LaPorta’s and Alim’s cases will be interesting because their potential paydays with other teams may be far more than what Brad’s vision allows. I hope it all works out as smoothly as the St. Brown and Sewell negotiations, but I question whether Brad will make it happen in Howie Roseman fashion with 7 void years and similar ways.

Maybe Detroit is just that attractive and maybe Brad will pay everyone through 2045. It’s a great time to be a Lions fan.

Im pretty sure the last nflpa contract shortened the maximum number of years that a signing bonus can be prorated over to 5 years. @DeadStroke correct me if I’m wrong. Yes you can still spread out money with void years, but this is the reason 6 and 7 year contracts practically vanished. Mahomes is unique so his 10 year contract is unique.

I still feel as if I’m owed reparations by this franchise for years of hell. Some of you have way better claims then I do being I’m only 35. I’ll let you guys know when first payment hits.

I honestly think we are worrying about this too much. Qb,wr,ot and de are the 4 cornerstone positions of a team. We have studs at all 4 and have them locked up for the foreseeable future.

A team would be foolish not to lock in these positions if they could.

Some of the others will get shorter fair deals as needed and some will be let into FA and hopefully replaced with draft picks. We might let Laporta walk or trade him like Hock, we may let Gibbs walk. Holmes is now drafting based on future roster construction not necessarily what we need this year right now.

I’d do Decker and McNeil and wait and see on everyone else.

I think @smann7 just summarized it really well. I think @DeadStroke will have a good run down on what to expect as well but there is going to be overlap and we will keep drafting good players. We might have to let some guys go and its a new world for us to be in, having really good players not bc of luck but bc of scouting and coaching and then replacing them with more of the same…but i think thats where we are…will there be maybe a eh season sure…but the talent and team is gon a be a top 5 franchise for an easy 6-10 years IMHO.

Interesting. I figured for sure you’d do Hooker first.
